We stopped by this spot while traveling through the Nashville area, and after looking at the Google reviews we figured we would see what it was about. The portion sizes were good, and all of the food had really good seasoning. Service was amazing, and they offered military discount which was nice. My husband and I were each given a free Beignet that was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back!

Went here for lunch today and felt like I MUST write a review because I loved this place so much! It is clean, cutely decorated, and the staff were all incredibly polite and kind. We went around 12:15 and I expected to wait (since you do at most places for lunch) but we ordered immediately and then the food was also fast. I ordered the seafood gumbo and it was delicious, and also tried the fried oysters and fried shrimp which I would also highly recommend. I want to come back after work some time and get a hurricane! I love New Orleans and this place was a great reminder of the amazing food, hospitality and culture of the city and we are lucky to have it! I only wish it was a little closer to side of town of live on so I could go more often :)

Great little restaurant. From the outside it doesn't look like much but inside is like stepping into New Orleans. The service is fantastic with some of the nicest staff across the board. The food is excellent! The gumbo is amazing and loaded with meats. Lots of options for Po-Boy sandwiches too. Great place to eat, I'll make a trip next time I'm in Nashville.

  • Aug 23, 2022 by Britt Senecal

The gumbo is delicious, the Poe boys are amazing. My family loves this place. The staff are super friendly and just great energy all around. Only wish they had more gf options but I'll deal with the cheat for this place once a year

Fantastic place. Great service, great food, cool atmosphere. One of the best experiences we have had. Including restaurants we have been in New Orleans. Great job all around.
Staff was fantastic. Brian was wonderful as well as the rest of the team! This will be a new regular spot for us

Went there for the first time yesterday. I enjoyed myself. Atmosphere was great. Customer service was excellent, and the food was great. I had the seafood platter it was good I don't never eat oysters but I ate them not realizing it. The soft shell crab wasn't bad tasting just wasn't my thing but I will definitely go back

  • Aug 05, 2022 by ebony foster

Really enjoyed the food and the servers were all nice and loved that different ones as they walked by checked on each of the tables to make sure you were good!! Generous portions and its so hard to choose what to get so always have to get a little of everything. I drive out of the way to come here because it is definitely worth it!

  • Jul 26, 2022 by Brad Pool

Service and attention to detail was excellent. Pricing very reasonable. The chicken and sausage gumbo did lack the cajun spices I was hoping to taste. It was slightly more spicy than a vegetable soup. The bread pudding was some of the best I've ever tasted. Overall, I'd eat there again when back in town. Just without the gumbo .

  • Jul 20, 2022 by Eric Nichols

Herb, the owner, deserves the title of "Hardest Working Man In Show Business"!!
Wonderful little place that has continued to grow organically. A suburban gem that is worthy of visits from across town. Unpretentious and solid food throughout the menu. The bread is fabulous and the catfish is one of the best kept secrets around!

Great addition to Bellevue food scene. Very consistent and the owner is a great guy and always working, it seems.

    ***Updated Review***

My family and I went in to Voodoo Gumbo this evening and ordered our food to go. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who showed us to the To Go counter. I did ask for Herb who greeted us with a smile. After we ordered, I took a look around and the decor was very inviting, as was the music! All of the staff was friendly and interacted with our kids.

Now for the food! If you get the beignets, eat them right away! They really were delicious and fresh. I didn’t want to risk waiting to get home so I tasted mine in the car. We also got the shrimp Po’ boy, catfish with hot fries, and seafood gumbo, all of which was great! Thank you for Herb and the VG staff for the amazing service and food! We’ll absolutely be back!

    Original Review: 3 Stars
The food was pretty good but the beignets were not giving Cafe Du Monde. They were pretty dry and lacked taste. The fried shrimp & fries and catfish atchafalaya tasted great. We also got a hurricane and it was definitely New Orleans worthy. I’ll go again but try a different dessert.

I don’t know what happened to Voodoo Gumbo. It used to be a pretty cool place with a hip NOLA vibe. Then they decided to start table service while still treating the place as a volume eatery.

Our most recent experience is telling. We got a table right away. The server asked us about drinks and appetizer at the same time. Not thinking, we ordered the fried catfish. My wife asked for white wine, I decided to try their Hurricane. (Their “Hurricane,” by the way, was basically fruit punch-maybe they opened the rum bottle to let the fumes soak in).

Our drinks arrived right away (no water), and the server already wanted to know what we wanted as an entree. We hadn’t even taken a sip of our drinks or gotten the appetizer!

Anyway, we foolishly put in our orders. Within two minutes, someone was at our table-with our entrees. When we pointed out that we had been waiting for an appetizer, the guy with the entrees adopted that deer-in-the-headlights look. I explained again, and he said he’d check on it. He came back two minutes later with the appetizer (we had already started on the entrees). We decided not to send it back. But really….

I will say that the catfish was good. The jambalaya was so-so (pretty heavy on the rice), while the red beans and rice were also pretty good. They can still cook.

But we can cook at home. We go out, we expect to have a leisurely dinner, conversation over our drinks, time to let the appetizer settle so we can consider the entree. We do not expect to be rushed in and out like we’re at a McDonald’s. If you want to operate a volume business, then put in a drive-through window. Don’t shove patrons into seats, rush them through the meal, and kick them out the door.

WOW!!! If I could give this place 6 stars I would. Entering the restaurant set the together, clean, well decorated and very classy. The food was amazing hot, fresh and and absolutely delicious. The service was immaculate very friendly and great customer service.

Went tonight. Menu prices listed here are not updated. Oyster & soft shell crab platter is now $29.95. Most prices raised. Food servings decreased exponentially. They gave me 7 oysters! What they served me could fit on saucer. Long long time before I will go back if ever.

A must. We were feeling froggy one night and drove 30 mins to try this place, definitely worth it. We have been back on multiple occasions. The inside has lots of seating, but spread out so you're not on top of one another. To go orders form a line to the left at the counter when you walk in. The gumbo is perfect and melts in your mouth great flavors. I tried a side of potato salad and it was very green, had a very herb taste too it but I didn't mind it. The shrimp appetizer was delicious. You have to get some beignets when here! I have recommended this place to others and will continue to do so!

Had our daughters college graduation party here tonight. They treated us like royalty and the food and service were amazing. The owner came to our table to acknowledge our daughter. The atmosphere is very nice with many pictures of New Orleans and it is not a stuffy atmosphere.

  • Mar 23, 2022 by Katherine Hall

The food was ABSOLUTELY delicious!! My mother went to college and lived in New Orleans for a few years and she said the food tastes exactly like what you’d find in Nola! We even got complementary beignets for it being our first visit. The service was amazing too. If you’re near the Nashville area then you 100% need to stop by!!

  • Mar 14, 2022 by Underated RS3

The food here is amazing we found our little slice of New Orleans in Tennessee!! The flavors remind me of home!

The staff is beyond friendly and make Voodoo Gumbo a family like atmosphere.

I can't say enough good things! We have been in TN for a week and have been here 3 times

  • Feb 16, 2022 by Kimberly Scheuer

Love this restaurant! Wonderful food! Not just delicious gumbo, beans and rice, but delicious hot roast beef sandwiches and salads. Very clean, efficient friendly staff.

  • Jan 24, 2022 by Joyce Grizzle

First time here, and it certainly won’t be our last! Amazing cajun food and ambiance. I had a Hurricane to drink, and the fried oyster platter with yummy spicy fries and Cajun potato salad. Oysters were amazing, 10 big plump perfectly fried briny oysters! My husband had a local draft beer, etoufee, and a small gumbo. Everything was on point, so delicious. It was my birthday so they gave me a complimentary beignet sundae. I think I’m in a food coma now

  • Jan 09, 2022 by Rebecca Denton

We used Voodoo Gumbo to cater a birthday/holiday party in December, and the food was amazing! We had the Chicken Sausage Gumbo and the Red Beans and Rice (served in chafing dishes that we rented from Liberty Party Rental to keep everything warm) and it was a hit! Both dishes came with lots of rice and fresh French bread. The whole experience was excellent!

  • Dec 24, 2021 by D House

Excellent service, and excellent food! Every staff member was super nice and very helpful! The gator bites are awesome! Everyone in our party of seven was very happy with the everything! Thank you Voodoo Gumbo for a great dining experience!

  • Dec 14, 2021 by Bob Borbeck

The food is made with TLC. The ambiance is Louisiana Cajun music and wall hangings. We have enjoyed every dish and it is a piece of heaven. Staff is very attentive. Bravo VooDoo Gumbo. This is our happy place. Thanks

  • Nov 15, 2021 by Raciel Gutierrez A

We love the place. The food is amazing great flavor. And love the service! Our waitress and all staff are really friendly. We were in a group and we stayed late, and because was the first time they gave is free desert. That by the way was amazing!
The Gumbo is delicious and a friend native from Louisiana, confirms is authentic and delicious food.
It is a place worth to try and travel to it.
    My favorite jambalaya and etufee

  • Oct 20, 2021 by Chrystal G.

What a great place! We popped in tentatively to see if the inside was more inviting than the outside, and we are SO glad we did!

The energy was excellent (great music, decor, and overall interior branding), the food was delicious, and the desserts were ridiculous.

On top of all that, the staff are friendly and thoughtful. This place takes care of their customers.

    Can’t wait to go back!

  • Oct 03, 2021 by William Rogers III (Will)

Way better than fast food and just as fast!

Food/Drink quality for price: The cup of delicious gumbo was totally worth the price! Came with rice and bread roll. To go order came with styrofoam plate to catch spills.

    Atmosphere: chill and comfortable

    Noise level: totally fine

    Lighting: dark and cozy

    Staff: super friendly and helpful

    Cleanliness: very clean

Bathroom (men's): clean! Even at closing

    Seating: Many tables, all inside

    Car parking: plenty

    Bike parking: none

This place is amazing. The food is always fresh and they are very consistent with quality. Service is above and beyond.

  • Sep 28, 2021 by Al Rago

Was a 4 star in my opinion. The recent price hike lost them a star. The recent decline in food quality lost them another. Was a place I frequented often for lunch. I will not be back.

Update after response from owner. Sure, maybe I am a cheapskate for not wanting to pay another $5 for my regular order. But what lost my business was the combination of the price increase and quality decline. Maybe it was just my experience. Last 2 times my food came out overcooked (rubbery) and I mentioned this to your staff. Was a big fan and brought many friends and family here. I also included your restaurant in a move in packet of local businesses I recommend to new residents moving to the area. The explanation you gave about prices going up makes a lot of sense. I appreciate you bringing light to the situation. I just wish you did so without being disrespectful. I am not trying to hurt your business. I wanted to give you feedback. I can understand your frustration with being forced to charge more. Good luck to you.

Every single thing I've had at this restaurant has been delicious! It is a casual setting in a strip mall, but don't let that for you. The fried oysters are incredible, my daughter loves the gumbo and I love the étouffée and the Poboy's. The staff are all very friendly, and I highly recommend it.

  • Sep 20, 2021 by Natalia Olejnik

Not sure why it took us this long to come here! From
The ambiance to authenticity of wonderful creole cooking this place Can’t be beat! Cheers to the owner and incredible staff for incredible execution and top quality food. We will be back! You deserve nothing but future success! Thank you for bringing your restaurant to Bellevue!

  • Sep 20, 2021 by Thomas B.

Excellent--love it and very authentic!  I am glad to see the place is catching on. We've eaten here every other week or so for the last 3-4 years and never a bad dish!!

  • Aug 31, 2021 by Jacob G.

Just had their Shrimp poboy sandwich. Awesome one! It was just a quick Pittstop hence could not order more and no pics. Just ordered by phone and picked up the order due to the covid situation. Large dining area and friendly staff. Definitely recommend.

  • Aug 25, 2021 by Gale S

First visit, the gumbo was so salty it was inedible. Two years later I decided to give Voodoo another try and ordered the catfish platter. Among the worst catfish I've ever tasted. Too salty and definitely not fresh. The coleslaw was really good, though it should have been served chilled instead of nearly room temperature. That and a great selection of NOLA beers isn't enough to make me want to go a third time.

  • Aug 23, 2021 by Jerry M.

Got a new fav eatery. I had lunch here for the first time- ordered the half gumbo/half poy bo. Killer combination! The chicken and sausage gumbo was really good but the oyster po boy was stellar! The bread has that authentic crispy crust and was packed with perfectly fried oysters. Got the beignets for a perfect finish. Before I forget, the service was what I would expect from a fine dining experience. These guys and gals are the best!

  • Aug 23, 2021 by Alex K.

Best jambalaya I have ever had hands down.   Food is incredible.  Some of the best service in town.  Lunch or dinner this place is a hidden gem.

  • Aug 22, 2021 by Michael Coffey

Fantastic meal with friends. Had the gumbo and it was absolutely wonderful creamy Rich thick exactly what you would expect. We had fresh hot beignets brought to us and the service people were friendly and kind. I couldn't ask for more in the next time I'm in Nashville I will visit again!

  • Aug 15, 2021 by Clay L.

Delicious!!! Po boy's are mmmm mm good. Great gumbo. And our 1 year old daughter LOVED the Étouffée and perfect french fries!!  And free ice cream for the kiddo!

  • Aug 13, 2021 by mj bessick

It wasn’t the New Orleans style food I was looking for. I was recommended by a friend but didn’t live up to my expectations. I’ve had New Orleans gumbo and catfish and it wasn’t the seasoning I’m used to eating in New Orleans. I sure was looking for a New Orleans seafood place to eat here in Nashville but I guess I’m going to have to make a trip to New Orleans. I’ve tried 4 different Seafood places that said food taste like New Orleans and I’m sorry it’s not. Maybe it’s the the different creole seasoning they use on their food in New Orleans compare to here. Now the beignets were New Orleans style very good. The staff was real friendly and the food was good though just not New Orleans.

Last Update: Despite previous insults I do honestly wish you well. I have enjoyed voodoo Jumbo on many occasions and your staff has always been very nice to me. One of your servers always compliments my suits which is nice. I have to admit I shared my review on my facebook which maybe was in poor taste. Anyways don't worry about me I am not offended and hold no grudges.

We have eaten here a year or so ago and was good. Happened to be on that side of Nashville, and decided to go again. So Family dinner night out, it is. ordered: Half and Half -Roast Beef Poboy ( dressed) and Jambalaya. Half and Half -Roast Beef Poboy ( dressed) and Etouffee. Half and Half -Alligator Poboy (dressed) and Seafood Gumbo. Bowl of Red Beans and Rice. Kids Chicken Tenders and Fries. Double order of  3 X Beignets Kids 12 and under get a free ice cream sundae. 2 Abita Rootbeers (can) 2 teas Everything was great. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and all but one needed a Togo box. We took 4 Beignets home. Only thing, we would of changed...... we like our Roast Beef Poboy's to be "wet" (dripping with gravy, where it soaks into the bread). We are a family that knows Cajun style food, and this place is probably as close to S. LA. As you can get. It actually beats some of the places in New Orleans we have eaten at. Service was ok. Could of been a little more attentive to drinks, and clearing plates. The Beignets- one is quite big, and not what you get at Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. ( reason for the Togo box of the other 4). Price wise, for the above = $91.00 Honestly, there are fancier restaurants in Nashville, but I don't believe you will find a better meal, price wise to compete. Everyone agreed it was a good decision for dinner, and worth our drive. Looking forward to our next visit.

Voodoo Gumbo was a beautiful surprise! Having recently moved here from the Gulf coast, we were amazed to find such a great Cajun place in Nashville--every bit as good as what my wife, a southern Mississippi native, is used to. The gumbo is incredible, and the beignets... Wow! We'll be back. A lot.

  • Jul 14, 2021 by Cecily S.

Not to hype it up too much, but I went to Domilise's, I went to the French Quarter, and I tried food ALL ACROSS the city of New Orleans and this place does it better. Even the beignets - they kick Cafe Du Monde in the butt. It's as if there's a deep love for the city there, in the kitchen, and they put just a little extra love and longing in every dish. It comes out perfect, always, and maybe even improved along the way. What an absolute gem of a restaurant.

  • Jul 11, 2021 by Mary B.

We walked our feet off rediscovering this gumbo and étouffée.  Odd setting but so delish, my husband was happy I brought him there after tasting his entree and mine.  Really great cooking.

  • Jul 09, 2021 by Misty V.

We drive past this all the time and have wondered if it was any good. Tonight we wanted something different so we tried it! I really want to give 4 1/2 stars. 5 stars for the food (3 dishes) and 3 stars for the hurricane. The food is definitely what you go for and let me tell you, that étouffée is amazing. The best. Anywhere. The shrimp po boy and fried oysters were also good. We were really impressed. We weren't going to try the beignets tonight but when we told her it was our first time in, she gave them to us on the house! And yes, they were legit! Now back to that hurricane... very bitter. Something wasn't right. But the food was so good, I didn't drank it anyway. Also, the owner is doing something right bc it was fully staffed! Great and fast service! Try this place! Don't wait and wonder like we did!

  • Jul 02, 2021 by Jeffrey D.

Solid. I love it. I've had more than half the menu by now and everything's a hit in my eyes.

  • Jun 21, 2021 by Katrina Winchester

First time here. Took a few minutes too long to get our beverages, but then it was all good. The servers were helpful and friendly. The food was delicious. We rounded out our Father's Day with an amazing bread pudding!

  • Jun 19, 2021 by Richard P.

Cajun! Cajun! Love it. First time time trying this upon a couple recommendations. Good call people. You steered us in the right direction. I had the gumbo and my wife had the poboy. Both were really good and flavorful. No complaints. Service was friendly and place was clean. We have beignets on their way. Yay!! Overall we both enjoyed the food and experience. The fried items were lightly battered and fried which is what at I prefer. We will definitely return next time we are in the area. Yum!

This spot!!!!! oh my lord!!!! I love Louisiana food! And this is the only!!! Place I've found around Nashville! It's sooooooo good! Everyone is slipping on this place!!!! Y'all HAVEEEEE TO GO!!!!

  • Jun 12, 2021 by Marques R.

A little slice of New Orleans right in Bellevue. Delicious food and excellent service. Hopefully, the operating hours will be adjusted now that Covid restrictions are gone. Otherwise, a delicious meal!

  • Jun 10, 2021 by Rachel L.

Yum. Delicious and authentic, this place takes you to NOLA! I've been once on my own as I live close, but I ordered takeout from them earlier this week for a meeting at work and it could not have been a better experience. Everything was hot, fresh and ready for pickup at the exact time I needed, which was great as it was for a meeting and clearly I was on a timeline for pickup and getting back to work. I cannot stress enough how many RAVE REVIEWS I received from my coworkers. They loved it! Highlights: shrimp poboy (whatever sauce is used is dynamite), chicken and sausage gumbo has great spice and the perfect amount of heat, seafood gumbo is light but filling, flavorful but not too spicy. Fresh NOLA bread. I was the star employee of the week for bringing them this food. Will definitely be back for future lunch meetings. Love love you guys!

the customer service is top notch.  Everyone is so  nice and welcoming. great decor and music.

  • May 29, 2021 by Jamie N

I wish I'd taken a picture, but the food didn't last that long. I had the seafood gumbo and catfish poboy while my husband had the creole jambalaya. Everything was excellent: flavorful, good portions, and good price. We really didn't have room for the beignets, but we ate then anyway! Super friendly staff as well!

  • May 25, 2021 by Carey Morris

The food was great! If this restaurant was more formal, it would be awesome! Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable experience, but I think (my opinion) with the music that was playing, the food and drinks offered it would be even better if our food was ordered from the table. Either way, I'll be back some day!!! Thank you for serving us!

  • May 23, 2021 by James N.

1st time to dine here. Service was great and very helpful. Food was delicious and the beignets were great. Can't wait to go back.

  • May 20, 2021 by Fred H.

My wife picked this place for lunch and we were in town briefly from Chicago.  We were pleasantly surprised. I was in a strip mall, so we didn't know how to perceive that. The dining area was spacious and open, the decor was festive with a New Orleans theme. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I love a concise menu, they had alot of creole staples, étouffée, jambalaya and gumbo. I opted for the fired jumbo shrimp and my wife went with the catfish with rice covered in a seafood sauce. Both dishes were excellent. Both dishes exceeded our expectations. I will acknowledge, someone pointed out in their review of the saltiness of the food, I tend to err on the salty side. In saying that, it wasn't too salty for my taste but I could see the point. Lastly, because we were new customers, they gave us 2 free beignets. They make them fresh, so when we were done with lunch, they made the beignets to order and brought them out to us. Delicious....It was also the first time my wife ever had beignets. Needless to say, she was very happy.........if were ever in the Nashville area again, we'll be sure to stop by.

  • May 16, 2021 by Lisa Weatherspoon

Just left and I have to say it was one of the best dining experience in a very long time. Staff was AMAZING! Can’t say enough good things. Owner came out to see if everything was good. We were celebrating my Cajun Dad’s 80th birthday and he gave it the stamp of approval. Food was fresh and hot! I will definitely go back.

  • May 07, 2021 by Paul Ruff

What a great place!!! The staff is incredible. The guy that took our order was so excited to talk about the food and all the options. Everyone that I interacted with was so engaging and happy. And then the food.... Great flavor and portions. You can tell that everyone is invested in the success of the restaurant. I will 100% be back. Thank you very much for a great meal.

  • Apr 27, 2021 by Brian Kashas

The food was outstanding, but the service was even better. The young woman who took our order was friendly and informative. Our server Bryan was timely, friendly, and made us feel right at home. The gumbo and catfish po'boy were delicious. We visit Nashville once or twice a year and will definitely be back!

  • Apr 27, 2021 by Kelly Kashas

Just had a wonderful experience at Voodoo Gumbo. The food was amazing and the customer service was top notch.. especially Bryan! Thank you so much, I will be back!

  • Apr 06, 2021 by Jen S.

Yummy! Don't be fooled by what APPEARS to be a dark exterior...if the open light is flashing, give 'em a try! The tinting on front door is quite dark. As one of our first post-COVID-shot dinners out, we were back at this fave Bellevue joint. It was pretty busy on a Friday night but tables were fairly spaced out and servers all in masks/gloves/keeping things wiped down for your safety. We enjoyed the VERY TENDER alligator bites as a shared app (yup, tastes like chicken!), in a tasty dipping sauce. Then had fried shrimp po boys fully dressed and etoufee. Tip: get some remoulade sauce on the side to add that perfect pizazz to the sandwich! Etoufee here is better than their namesake gumbo, imho. Very good! A bit salty this night but maybe we've just gotten used to a lower salt lifestyle of our home-cooking. Anyway...highly recommend supporting this local biz! They do also serve zagg chips, a variety of alcohols, and FRESH BEIGNETS. Another tip, order them after your meal as dessert so that they are nice and hot when you're ready to chow down.

  • Apr 05, 2021 by Matthew W.

Voodoo Gumbo is great Cajun food. But the owners and staff are even better. Very friendly. And pretty quick service for Nashville which is nearly impossible to find. I don't go anywhere else for Cajun food. Super friendly staff. Best Cajun food I've had in the area. Reminds me of Nola! Staff was real friendly with young kids and were very accommodating for our large group of 10 people. I've been numerous times now and haven't had a bad meal there. If i had to critique my critique would be I wish there was more food in the meal.

My mom was craving fried oysters, so we got a to-go order - oysters, catfish, & shrimp. Everything was absolutely incredible! The restaurant smells amazing when you walk in. All the servers were super nice. We will definitely be coming back! Delicious!!

  • Mar 24, 2021 by John M.

Decent place, great jambalaya, nice that they give free samples and a free beignet sundae for your birthday!

  • Mar 22, 2021 by Tanzy W.

May not look at on the outside but a true New Orleans experience. Fantastic food, Oysters shrimp everything perfect even the bread. The amaretto bread pudding will sell out that is worth the trip alone.

DELICIOUS FOOD. The gumbo was so plump and juicy. The staff is amazing and so sweet. I will be returning

  • Mar 15, 2021 by Nick T.

Finally made it to Voodoo Gumbo, what a delight .  Authentic poboys.  The bread is right !  I ordered mine with fried oysters.  Plump oysters & nice crispy breading .  Then I had a bowl of seafood gumbo, definitely the real deal.  I'm ready to come back

  • Mar 03, 2021 by J M.

Real deal poboys down to the Leidenheimer bread they use. Great gumbo. Being a native Louisianian, this place feels and tastes like home. Great service. Great job you all!

  • Mar 02, 2021 by Beth G.

Well I am stumped here. Portions large- seafood lots but I think the salt machine is broken- everything was way to salty. It was good but the salt got to me. All night drinking water. Took me forever to come and finally tried the catfish and the seafood gumbo and the etouffe and fries. Very good except for the salt. Service was wonderful cheery and safety was first. If we come back will update review. We had takeout and lots of orders came on a Tuesday evening.

My husband and I love coming here for their wonderful service and delicious food. The wait staff follow Covid guidelines thoroughly. The man working the register wiped down the table and the whole booth effectively and ensured us a safe visit. Our waiter, May or Mai, delivered the food promptly and was a delight.

  • Feb 23, 2021 by Troy C.

I am out of town and couldn't figure out what to eat. I am so glad I picked this place.  You get your money's worth.  The etouffee bowl and catfish appetizer was excellent.  Mae was an excellent server who made sure I tried a sample.

  • Feb 20, 2021 by Katie I.

I can't believe it took me so many years to try this place. My neighbors told me how good this place was, and I'm not the biggest fan of Cajun/creole food, so I was reluctant. Holy smokes it is the bomb! Changed my mind on gumbo. You've never had true gumbo until this place. The seafood is amazing. Perfect roux, generous shrimp and crab. The crawfish etoufee is the amazing, as well. I can't pick which dish I love best. The etoufee has big gulf shrimp and is just perfection. The red beans and rice are to die for. Best ever! My husband loves this dish the most, the poboys are all delicious. I've tried the shrimp and it's so good! Served on the authentic Leidenheimers French bread. One of these days I'll try more on the menu, but it's hard to veer off what I have fallen in love with. Oh and the beignets are legit. Authentic, not too spicy, but full of flavor. Love this place!!!

  • Feb 11, 2021 by Ricky R.

This place never lets me down. The owner is super cool, and the service is great. Whenever I'm craving nola food this is the place to go. They never disappoint! The owner even satisfied a personal request for me and made one of my Nola favs, "boo fries" he needs to add this to the menu!! Soooo good. If you're reading this, head there now!

  • Feb 09, 2021 by Elke N.

Delicious for dinner or lunch. Great po' boys and fries, great gumbo. My favorite is the Catfish Atchafalaya!

  • Feb 06, 2021 by Jessica H.

Everything was delicious! We had étouffée, a fried oyster po' boy, gator bites, and spicy fries. YUMMM

  • Jan 19, 2021 by Tracy C.

Had a great meal and enjoyed ourselves some very much. Catfish PO boy was one of the best I've had.

  • Jan 15, 2021 by Mohammad Jamal Uddin

The food is delicious but a little pricy for the amount and worth. The place is tidy and spacious, the staffs are super friendly. I went at the very last minutes so couldn’t find a lot of options - had seafood gumbo and shrimp gumbo, they were good! If you want to feel the vibe of a southern home style restaurant (I heard a lot about this), it can be one place to go.

  • Jan 13, 2021 by ToothlessR1 (ToothlessR1)

Wow. The service here is above and beyond. The food is even better.

I’m gonna keep it short. Kevin and the other guys go to great lengths to make sure you enjoy your experience and provide samples of the food to let you really make the right choice on your meal.

I’m hooked after my first visit. Please come try out this amazing establishment.

45 yrs. Restaurant business. Just retired from Antonio's of NASHVILLE. I am a poboy snob! You guys blew me away ! Thanks for hanging in there!

  • Dec 31, 2020 by Beth H. 2 photos

We really enjoyed Voodoo Gumbo. Although I don't think we got our gumbo, and extra jambalaya. It was all good. I'm not complaining! Will just be back for the gumbo soon. I'm a Nashville (Bellevue) native, and I have been missing out. Mainly bc I avoid that parking lot.  the red beans and rice were phenomenal! We really enjoyed the hot fries, very crispy and tasty.

  • Dec 29, 2020 by doncab

Having been raised in south Louisiana, I can honestly say that this restaurant offers the most authentic Cajun food/seafood in the Nashville area. Many restaurants claim to have Cajun items on their menu, but always fall short in authenticity. It is evident that the owners are from Louisiana and brought their delicious recipes with them to Nashville! With jazz music playing and pictures of New Orleans on the walls, the feel of New Orleans is there. The bread served with the gumbo and poboys is the real thing! The amount of shrimp served on the poboys is generous and fried to perfection. The employees are friendly and attentive. And if you like beignets, this is the place.....tastes exactly like those from Cafe du Monde. There is no question that I will return! Highly recommend!

  • Dec 27, 2020 by Mavischild

Ordered a grilled shrimp platter and a soft crab poboy. The soft bread on the poboy was excellent. Great flavor on the shrimp and nice seasoned fries. Definitely will return. Service was very attentive. All employees are definitely following CDC regulations for social distancing and wearing gloves and masks. Very clean inside!

  • Dec 27, 2020 by Lauren B.

Took a chance on VG after driving on the Natchez Trace and am so glad we did! Super friendly staff, free beignets for first timers, and you can ask for samples of any of the gumbos before ordering so you can choose your favorite. One spoon of the shrimp and crawdad etouffee sample and I knew I needed a bowl, if not the gallon size on the catering menu. SO SO GOOD. We didn't have room left for the Amaretto bread pudding but will definitely be back to get it. Can't say enough good things about this place.

  • Dec 23, 2020 by Daniel A. 1 photo

Heard a lot about this restaurant from family that lives close by.  They recommended the Shrimp PO Boy sandwich which is fried shrimp on a hefty French bread.  And the remoulade sauce that comes with the sandwich is no joke, smother that sandwich with as much tangy sauce as you can.  If you're craving Cajun food, this is a must get.   The jambalaya was good, nothing extra special but tasty.  Good amount of sausage with well seasoned rice.   Staff very accommodating and follow Covid safety restrictions.

  • Dec 23, 2020 by Paul S

We have been to this restaurant close to 20x in the last 6 months. It's remarkably consistent and they are serious about good food-serious enough that they "import" Leidenheimer Bread from Louisiana for their Po-boys. They do all of the fried items really well and they have a great shrimp salad, either boiled or remoulade with tons of avocado, red bell peppers etc. There is no place else to get softshell crab as well. And don't worry, their seafood products are all GULF, none of that unhealthy Vietnamese or Chinese junk that too many restaurants serve. Service is professional and clean with servers wearing masks and gloves. See you there.

  • Dec 19, 2020 by Jake S.

This is our favorite spot to eat Cajun in Nashville. My wife is from south Louisiana and she says it's pretty authentic!

  • Dec 19, 2020 by Elle B.

A truly amazing place that's fairytale like! The art exhibit was beautiful too! A must see.

  • Dec 18, 2020 by Katie L.

I don't usually write reviews but I thought I would because this restaurant seemed to really make an effort, the food was authentic & amazing! Voodoo Gumbo was a super pleasant surprise! My husband chose this place because the location of is close to the Cheekwood Estate where we had plans to go see the holiday lights after dinner. At first, we really chose this place out of convenience of location. Every employee greeted us with a happy smile & a welcome as we walked in. The restaurant has a super comfortable ambiance & they did a great job of spacing the tables out for social distancing during Covid. Our server was very polite, she made some great recommendations & we couldn't be happier with the food. I highly recommend the fried catfish & the gator bites are a absolute must!

  • Dec 14, 2020 by Laterria M.

Food was great, and so was the service! We had the seafood platter and shrimp creole.

  • Dec 14, 2020 by Selena G.

I cannot say enough amazing things about this place. The catfish po boy and etoufee gumbo were amazing!!! My favorite meal in all of Nashville. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, but the employees were exceptionally kind and helpful!! I was blown away by this restaurant and HIGHLY recommend Voodoo Gumbo to anyone visiting or staying in Nashville!

I went here for  my birthday  dinner and  it was so  delicious.  I will be  back.  It was so much like home. I am  originally from  Chalmette,  Louisiana  and having dinner  for my birthday  it was like being  home for dinner.  I had the roast beef  po boy, cup of red beans and rice.  For Birthday  surprise I  got Beignet  Sundae. It was bomdiggity.

  • Dec 05, 2020 by Erika Hall

Very good food. Excellent service. Everyone was very friendly. They let you taste samples of the gumbo and it is delicious. If its your first time there, let them know and you get a free bignet for dessert and they are so good!!

  • Dec 04, 2020 by Jeff C.

We did seafood gumbo takeout tonight. It was THE BEST SEAFOOD GUMBO I can remember!!  Absolutely perfect taste in every way. Looking forward to our next takeout order. Get the bowl, not the cup.  You'll be glad you got the extra serving.

We love Voodoo Gumbo! My family is from south Louisiana, so we can surely say that this place has authentic cajun food. The owner, Herb, is very friendly and interactive with his customers. This creates a nice home environment. The customer service is fantastic, and we have never had to wait over 20 minutes for food even when it's crowded. I love fried catfish and have had it from many different places outside of Louisiana, and theirs is my favorite. Also, their beignets are fantastic!! Perfectly golden and crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside. Just like Cafe du Monde!! The Louisiana ambiance is great. There are many photos of Mardi Gras and the French Quarter on the walls, not to mention the New Orleans style jazz playing that makes you feel like you're not in Nashville anymore. Love this place!!!

Ordered voodoo a couple months ago and it was incredible!! The jambalaya was my favorite and by surprise I also got the spicy fries and wow, so delicious!!

The food is good at a reasonable price however they have took my order over the phone for a large order of seafood gumbo and gave me the pint size one. So I had found out from my stepdad. If they cannot get it the order right I am never going to the place again. I can live without Cajun good.

Really good food, and Very high level of service. The staff members really cared about our experience today at lunch, as we were checked in and asked about our meal several times.   We had étouffée, gumbo and a poboy. All of which were quite good, and priced reasonably. The food was not overly spicy, but rather rich and smooth. I would definitely recommend eating here if you are considering it, and I will look forward to my next visit. (In pic, small bowl = gumbo, LG bowl= etouffee. )

I visited this place from Michigan looking for good creole food. I ordered the soft shell crab platter. The crab was overly battered and fried in old grease. And then when I bit into the crab it was nasty. The taste was off.

I exchanged for shrimp instead and the shrimp were overly seasoned and tasted as though they were fried in chicken grease.

The experience was not a good one for me.

  • Oct 28, 2020 by Bryan W

Delicious and authentic creole and cajun food. Casual place with fun pictures but the food is why you should get here.

  • Oct 26, 2020 by David D.

In town seeing clients for two days and ate here both nights.    It was that good!    Étouffée, gumbo and po boys are fantastic.    Highly recommended.

  • Oct 18, 2020 by Morgan Barth

I got takeout from here on Saturday night, my first ever visit. As someone who used to live in the Mississippi Delta, and make frequent trips to New Orleans, I was delighted to find excellent, authentic, delicious, and huge pro’ boys! The jambalaya and gumbo were excellent as well. We will definitely be adding Voodoo Gumbo to the regular rotation!

  • Oct 06, 2020 by Noah Stefanick

Went with 3 adults, 4 teens and 5 kids. Had a great time! We had a variety of food and everything was awesome, literally did not have a bad bite of anything. On top of that, the service was awesome, they were not too crowded, but even so, they were excellent! I can't wait until I am in the area again and can go back!

  • Oct 06, 2020 by Emily. PantherCreekForestry

Amazing food, polite, prompt service. The entire staff was friendly and so helpful. Super clean, staff was all properly masked. I would HIGHLY recommend eating here!! We had multiple children and a few adults - service was exceptional!

This was our first time visiting this establishment and I must say the food and customer service gets two

  • Sep 26, 2020 by Tim Prince

New favorite place in Nashville for cajun food. Today I had Alligator bites, chicken and sausage gumbo, deep fried soft shell crab po boy, and a hurricane.

  • Sep 21, 2020 by L RW

Friendly service, tasty food, clean restaurant. Best seasoned fries I've had in years.

  • Sep 19, 2020 by Shannon Ayers

It was Naturally N'awlins. We go everytime we get to Nashville. That Crawfish Etoufee is the business. I know because I'm from that Who Dat Nation and we know food. The Po-boys are made with Leidenhemer french bread. Those of us from New Orleans know, that's the real deal. You will not be disappointed.

  • Sep 19, 2020 by lindsayb860

We drive all the way from the other side of Nashville to enjoy voodoo gumbo. The crawfish ettoufe is the best thing on the menu! Kids meals are generous and mine are always so excited to get the sweet ice cream dessert. Don't miss the beignets!

  • Sep 16, 2020 by Jennifer Cart

    It was good quality

  • Sep 13, 2020 by Imann Smith

I'm from Alexandria, LA and I can say that the gumbo actually taste like real gumbo, not the fake ones in Nashville.

  • Sep 12, 2020 by Jill Reidelberger

Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. We're from outta town but tried this place. We were hesitant because it was counter order but they actually bring you the food and are very attentive after you sit down. The wait staff stopped by frequently to make sure you got drink refills and everything you need. Better service than a regular restaurant. Also got free Sundays for the kids and beignets at the end.

  • Sep 11, 2020 by Merranda M

My family and I stopped in for a quick bite when arriving to Nashville and this place did not disappoint. The food was really good and the service was exceptional!!

  • Sep 05, 2020 by Brandon Day

Shrimp po-boy was excellent. Great service and very clean inside. Definitely a place to try.

Good Cajun food but very expensive for what it is.

  • Aug 30, 2020 by Kara Barnhart

Went with family to grab a bite Sunday afternoon. The seating was very clean. They were cleaning in between customers and were following CDC social distancing guidelines. The customer service was top notch and the food was great! Sure will be stopping by here again.

  • Aug 22, 2020 by Sabrina McCoy

An awesome experience every time. The food here is so fresh and the staff is always kind. The atmosphere of the restaurant is comfortable and I really can't say enough nice things about this place.

  • Jul 26, 2020 by Marquibe Smith

This is hands down, the most authentic Cajun and Creole New Orleans style Restaurant in the entire state of Tennessee!! My compliments to the Chef, his brother, and the entire staff. I will definitely patronize Voodoo Gumbo at least twice a month! My wife and I enjoyed ourselves beyond expectations!

  • Jul 26, 2020 by Jenn Sturgeon

Think FLAVOR not necessarily spicy (although there are spicy options). Friendly service. New Orleans atmosphere. Kids LOVE it! Beignets are a "don't miss"! Try it- no way you'll regret it!

  • Jul 26, 2020 by David Luecke

So glad this place is doing well. Great food and staff. They are always patient with me when I want to try something new.

  • Jul 24, 2020 by Amy Kammerman

Great friendly service. Always delicious, good music too. Wonderfully authentic Cajun for Nashville!

  • Jul 19, 2020 by Ashley Foster

Food is great! However, being in Nashville there is a lot of great food. Yet, it is no where else in Nashville where you will get the GREAT service and friendly staff members as this place.

  • Jul 09, 2020 by Lauren Argyle

We are not from Nashville but wanted to look for some good food during our stay, and might I say it does not disappoint. We almost went next door to Sams and so glad we hadn’t. The delicious food and many options are matched only by the incredible service as well as the clean environment. Our server was incredibly friendly and the food came pretty quick. We were given beignets for our first time in and they were great as well, we have had beignets from the famous cafe du monde in New Orleans and voodoo’s were easily superior. Not to mention their fantastic hot fries. With all of the precautions due to Covid-19 they were extremely good about wearing masks, distancing tables/seating, as well as regularly cleaning tables and wiping down door handles. If we could add more stars we would.

  • Jul 09, 2020 by Liz Argyle

This place was great. The customer service isn’t just okay, it was actually excellent.

Definitely choose the hot fries over the regular, they have great flavor and a touch of heat.

  • Jul 04, 2020 by Joshua Simon

This is one of the best restaurants in all of Nashville. The service was honestly incredible and they were very diligent with making sure our order was correct for takeout. I ordered the fried oyster poboy and my fiancé got the shrimp gumbo and we shared gator bites. It was so fresh and tasty. Coming from Florida my fiancé is always skeptical of getting fish in land but she said she could tell no difference. We will be coming back as this moved to our #1 favorite restaurant and we will be repeat customers. Thank you for the amazing food!

  • Jun 29, 2020 by Deborah Torgersen-Paul

We ordered takeout gumbo, etouffee, shrimp, oysters and chicken fingers for a large family party. It was a huge hit, and the food was excellent!

  • Jun 13, 2020 by Amanda Torres

Super nice staff ♡♡♡ I can't stress that enough. This was my first visit and I'll definitely be going back. It was a lil taste of home. And can I just say... who has softshell crab in Nashville

  • Mar 09, 2020 by golemjohnny

I guess it’s an ‘adapt or die’ era. The gumbo was just warm not hot. The dude that poured my wine had his finger on the inside of my glass. Couldn’t bring myself to drink it and felt paranoid about food not well heated. Not sure about returning unless they adapt to current reality.

  • Mar 06, 2020 by Kevin Launius

First time to eat here and I was shocked at how good it was. For a restaurant to be in the form of chain...you wouldn't know it. Definitely will eat here again. Hint..the red beans and rice are phenomenal.

  • Feb 23, 2020 by AmosC_13

Our family decided to try this Cajun food on a Sunday for lunch. It is located about 10 miles southeast of Nashville in a strip mall in the Bellevue area. The inside of the place is nice, a decent size. You walk to the counter place your order and pay. Find a seat, get your drink from the soda fountain and they will bring the food. We waited a little over 5 minutes for the food to arrive. We ordered the catfish dinner and the jambalaya. The fried catfish was good. Side items...fries were good, cole slaw was average. The jambalaya was just ok. The rice was very gummy and there was no “kick” to it. The prices were ok. The service was fine. Overall, it was pretty good but didn’t “wow” us.

  • Feb 11, 2020 by KennethO1003

Voodoo gumbo's jambalaya is truly excellent! Their seafood gumbo is terrific too! My wife says the beignets were awesome. We'll be back soon!

  • Feb 07, 2020 by Griff297

Stopped into Voodoo Gumbo for a late lunch after a drs. appointment and have to say the place was great. Very nice staff , the menu has options to choose from and the food was fantastic. We got the seafood gumbo and a po boy both where great, both had great flavor and the sandwhich was toasted just right. All in all we had a great experience here and will definitely be back.

  • Feb 05, 2020 by GoodEats1954

The Sausage & chicken Jambalaya was delicious; the rice tender and moist and full of meat and veggies.

  • Jan 26, 2020 by 12dbryan

You can get many choices of good New Orleans favorites in a lunch combo (Poboy, a side, and a drink) for 8.95 M-F. If you find yourself a little hungrier go for the half and half (Half a Poboy, and half of another choice like red beans and rice or gumbo). It's all good here. They have have authentic beignets. They are prepared when you're ready for them and they are hot and delicious. I love VooDoo Gumbo and frequent it often.

  • Jan 15, 2020 by Stormy Rios

I'll start with saying the service is great. The gumbos really shine though, best I've had. Very clean dinning room as well. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

  • Jan 10, 2020 by Rebecca Reveal

    Nailed it!
What a great restaurant! They nailed the cornmeal batter and all the seafood was crisp on the outside and tender perfection inside. The french rolls were surprisingly light. They get the food out so fast, that you can definitely bring the kiddos and the sundaes with their names and fresh beignets are a nice touch. The New Orleans sound track and friendly, efficient staff made for an all around grand experience.

  • Dec 29, 2019 by Michael Perry

Extremely good customer service! Food was fantastic and good value. We didn't know what to order and the owner gave us many samples to try. We were then able to make very good choices.

I had sausage and chicken gumbo. I dipped French bread in the gumbo and it was just fantastic.

Absolutely delicious! Excellent service to boot! We'll definitely be back and thoroughly recommend them.

Visiting Nashville for the Flying Monkeys Marathon. Not far from the start we found this gem. I had the special - catfish atchefelaya- fantastic flavor combination. My friend had a shrimp po boy and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend!

Always love Voodoo Gumbo! Food is authentic New Orleans cuisine and so good!! There is not too much on the menu, but they have the perfect choices for that New Orleans flavor experience.

  • Nov 12, 2019 by Jim Britt

My family and I made our 2nd visit to Voodoo Gumbo and went for lunch on a Saturday. It wasn't terribly busy but we had to wait an extraordinarily long time for our food. Whoever was in charge became aware of the situation, came to our table and apologized profusely. They got the delicious food to us quickly after that, gave us a bunch of extra food and a gift certificate to use when we came back.

This is the kind of response that wins me over. It doesn't matter what business you're in, problems arise, mistakes happen. When someone goes out of their way to correct their mistakes it shows me they care and earns them a repeat customer and an advocate.

    Well done and thank you!

For my first time having catfish, it was amazing. The staff was friendly and the environment was comfy and welcoming. The dessert was delicious! I absolutely recommend the sundae beignet sundae!!!!!

  • Nov 05, 2019 by Naomi Burger

The second time we've visited, now I know it's not a fluke! The food here is absolutely delicious, everything I've tried is amazing. The atmosphere is relaxed but classy at the same time. The prices are a bit steeper than you'd think but very cheap for the overall quality. Prices range from about 7 dollars up for meals, so not expensive at all compared to many places!

  • Oct 15, 2019 by Sarah Huck

Amazing! This place was clean, friendly, and great food. The best beignets ever! Gumbo was delicious. The chicken tenders had great flavor! Can’t wait to come back

  • Oct 10, 2019 by ReneeR1918

The seafood gumbo was awesome! Loved it! Nice atmosphere-attentive staff - and free beignets! What more could you ask for!

  • Oct 06, 2019 by Bill Stallings

First visit. Staff very nice and friendly. Had a catfish sandwich and gumbo. The sandwich was good (they offer a choice of dressing), but for me personally, the gumbo was a bit salty. I don't eat much salt on my food, so it may be just right for others. I will have to try something else when I go back.

  • Sep 28, 2019 by Candice Davis

Food was amazing and the service was outstanding! First visit here they let us do a tasting of their gumbo and jambalaya and it was so delicious!!! The owner and his brother were so nice !! Thank you for the amazing food my family loved it !

  • Sep 22, 2019 by Melodie Davids

Highly recommended Voodoo gumbo. New Orleans in our backyard. Authentic New Orleans style cuisine at very affordable at very affordable prices. If you like Cajun food Voodoo gumbo is your place.

  • Sep 21, 2019 by amdawn521

Stopped in for lunch and am so happy we did! He got the fried oyster po boy and I had the seafood gumbo. Neither disappointed! I have not had cajun food this good since we were in New Orleans. Everything was seasoned perfectly but on the milder side. We also shared an order of beignets they taste just like we were at cafe du monde. I will definitely come back and suggest you stop in to!

Great food and service! I feel like I'm back in NOLA when I go. Also excellent Hurricane if you're so inclined

  • Sep 04, 2019 by Kcjmiddle

Voodoo Gumbo is in an unassuming strip mall (so parking is easy and free). The restaurant is very clean. You order at a counter and the food is delivered to you. The staff members were nice and helpful. I had the seafood gumbo and a half shrimp poboy. The food is very tasty. I can’t wait to go back and try some other dishes.

  • Sep 03, 2019 by Adam K

Last year I was heading for a pretty serious surgery and I had one last meal....I came to Voodoo and got a shrimp po boy, etouffe and some bengniets. Most of these I have misspelled. What a joyous meal. I toured with a Cajun band for almost two years and I have been blessed to know great Cajun food. These folks do a beautiful job! I am healthy again and I'll be back soon!

  • Sep 01, 2019 by Jeremy Wayne Bagwell

Awesome food! And the service was top notch. Will definitely go back. Can't wait to try the poboys.

Friendly staff, great food, clean place, and beignets for new customers. You will not be disappointed by this place. I would put 6 stars if I could.

  • Aug 29, 2019 by Henry H.

Interesting place.. Service was pleasant and they offered samples before we ordered since we hadn't been there before.

  • Aug 24, 2019 by DrB99

WOW! The chicken and sausage gumbo was as good as any I've had in NOLA! I loved how they separately wrapped tge serving of rice so I could add it when I got to my destination.I had an oyster po-boy as well and the oysters were well prepared..just enough cornmeal to fry them, but you still got the flavor of the oyster. We"ll be back!

  • Aug 19, 2019 by Harry Allen

The flavor of the food. The hospitality of the staff. I can’t believe we were the only people here!

Wonderful place. Deserves a better location than a strip mall. Just magnificent. Can’t say enough good things!

Ughh a simple review can’t do it justice!

Please go give them a try! They’re wonderful!

  • Aug 19, 2019 by Angie Q.

We stopped in for lunch at this cute little place and enjoyed it so much! The dining room is clean and uncluttered, with nice New Orleans theme art on the walls. So many times, "Cajun" is synonymous with cluttered and hokey. We were greeted promptly and received attentive and friendly service. We had shrimp po' boys, crawfish étouffée, and potato salad. They were all excellent. The best item on the table by far,  was the étouffée.  The portions were good and nicely priced for lunch. We finished with beignets, which were deliciously warm and covered with powdered sugar. The restrooms were clean and neat, which is a plus. I am looking forward to returning to try other things; it's worth a drive from south Nashville. There is a nice  Loiusiana beverage section, worth noting.

  • Aug 16, 2019 by Jessica P.

So, soo good! Service was excellent, food outstanding and generous portions. Clean restaurant, not crowded. Great kids menu. We trekked all the way from East Nashville and it was worth it!

  • Aug 16, 2019 by Sarah C.

LOVE this place! I've grown up with authentic Louisiana cooking, and this place didn't disappoint. I was honestly very impressed, good cajun restaurants in Nashville are few and far between. The staff here is wonderful and very friendly. Their servings are very generous. Tons of shrimp on the po-boy and the etouffée is also a large serving. Crawfish is great and very well seasoned. Beignets are to die for and served warm!!!! Great experience and have been back many times. Owners from South Louisiana

  • Aug 15, 2019 by freedombro

Stumbled across Voodoo Gumbo on Google. Reviews were good, but I was skeptical. This place overdelivered on every level. Clean facilities, Friendly Knowledgeable Staff, they suggested sampling the etoufee which was AMAZING! Service was fast, portions were on point, and the price was affordable. REAL, FRESH Beignets!! I can't wait to bring other friends here ASAP. Congrats to all involved w/ Voodoo Gumbo...Keep Up The Great Work!!

  • Aug 08, 2019 by Abigail A.

This place is really good! Staff was super friendly, and the food was great! I had the étouffée, and would recommend to other people. However, I think the best thing on their menu is their fried shrimp and fries (my dad let me try some of his). I hope to come back and order some beignets soon!

  • Aug 02, 2019 by Jennifer D.

Awesome...just awesome!!  Fried oysters and shrimp/crawfish etouffee just melt in your mouth goodness..  Get the fries with Slap Yo Momma seasoning.  The BEST fried oysters.

  • Jul 23, 2019 by Sarah M.

Food was excellent. I'm recommend the fried alligator  Excellent service! We also had beignets, which were fluffy and quite large. Would definitely stop here again!

  • Jul 13, 2019 by James T.

Just had Voodoo again; haven't in too long! It's as great and the people there are as awesome as all the reviews say. Had the shrimp poboy as usual and the medium shrimp are perfectly fresh and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. I know great shrimp as I lived on the NC coast and these are the best anywhere in hundreds of miles. Great authentic bread and delicious remoulade with just the right kick. Red beans and rice, gumbo, you name it, it's all great! Clean, comfortable place with the music you'd expect to set the mood. They care about what they do and deserve your business!

  • Jul 11, 2019 by Henry Farkas

Nice, clean New Orleans themed fast food place. You order at the cash register, you pay, and they give you a number. The guy who took our order was friendly and efficient. The prices were reasonable, and the food was fresh and pretty good. My red beans should have been a bit more spicy, and the cocktail sauce I requested with my fried oyster po' boy should have been way more spicy.

There's ample free parking out front since it is in a strip mall.

Visiting Nashville and passed by Voodoo Gumbo. Food is reasonably priced and lunch was delicious. I got Seafood Gumbo and Catfish PoBoy. Hubby got Oyster Poboy and Etouffee Gumbo. Staff was very personable.

  • Jul 08, 2019 by Rick Kloete

Love this place. Authentic French Bread from Louisiana "Leidenheimers" fantastic gumbo and lots of other great menu items like Po Boy sandwiches and tasty Cole slaw. You won't be fooled here, they are the real deal, and I grew up in New Orleans so I know.

  • Jul 07, 2019 by Becky S.

OMG this place is Legit!!!!! Owners from Belle Chase LA. Etouffee, Gumbo....met my picky standards and beyond. Had a 1/2  &  1/2 poboy Shrimp and Oyster dressed and tried their tarter sauce and remoulade....I Am In Heaven!!!! They give 1st timers beignets and the girls got sundaes....we will be back and EVERYONE needs to try this place!!!

  • Jun 25, 2019 by Kataz T.

Amazing food! Great customer service! The people were so friendly and courteous! They made suggestions! Gave us samples! We simply loved it!!!  My wife made me drive 200 miles just to get to this place and I can't complain! Can't wait to be back next time we are in the neighborhood!

  • Jun 23, 2019 by Crystal Snow

Their seafood gumbo was a tad over seasoned. It was still good. We had 2 free beignets since we had never been there before. My husband had a catfish po boy. The fish was fries to perfection. I wanted his food over mine. Friendly staff and fast food! Great combination.

  • Jun 23, 2019 by Susan G.

Great place for a quality Cajun snack or meal! Check it out! We can vouch for these menu items: Étouffée Shrimp Gumbo   Shrimp Po'boy   Chicken and Sausage Gumbo   --and-- Beignets   And very pleasant staff!

  • Jun 22, 2019 by George M.

Very authentic Cajun cuisine. Great service. Beignets were tasty. Definitely coming back.

  • Jun 20, 2019 by Dominic Griffo

It was good until I found a mushroom tip in my gumbo I showed it to the waiter his eyes got big he didn't Say anything just turned to the next table as took their order. When I left I walked to to the back and told the waiter hey man I left you a tip. I didn't stick around to see his reaction of the "tip" I left stuck on the end of the fork sticking out of drinking glass

  • Jun 18, 2019 by Jenns

LOVE this place! Good prices and one of the only places I’ve found that is authentic New Orleans. Friendly owners. So happy to have this place here!

  • Jun 15, 2019 by Martin M.

Very friendly staff, nice clean little restaurant, very fast service. Seems to have a great selection of Cajun foods. I had to remove a star because it's expensive for what you get. I went with etouffe in the large "bowl" that was about $13, and it tasted great but I wish there was more. I also wish it was a little hotter, both temperature and spice. I definitely plan to visit again and try a couple different options. So far not my favorite place in the world but so unique I want to try again!

  • Jun 12, 2019 by Zee Zed

Surprisingly genuine gumbo. Absolutely delicious. I highly recommend the etouffee. Alligator bites are surprisingly juicy and tender. Price not half bad for what you get.

  • Jun 12, 2019 by Brittany W.

Incredible customer service! Food was excellent as well. We will definitely be back! We had the shrimp poboy, gumbo, and an oyster poboy. All were incredible.

  • Jun 09, 2019 by Will P.

Alligator poboy and gumbo was delicious! Will definitely go again! The atmosphere was very cool and the service was polite and very good. Really surprisingly strong creole food in Bellevue

  • Jun 09, 2019 by Keith C.

From the moment you step inside the restaurant you smell, heat, and see New Orleans. The Cajun music, decor is delightful.  The gumbo is very good with two different flavors; chicken - sausage, and seafood. Very authentic. They do not overpower the taste with Cajun seasoning. Very good PoBoys. The shrimp PoBoy is piled high with shrimp. When you top it all off with beignets - what more could you ask for! Highly recommend this restaurant for Great food, great service!

  • Jun 06, 2019 by Scott Burgan

I haven't had anything off the menu that I did not like! The owner's a real good guy - one night we got there at closing time and we were walking back to our car and he came out and invited us in and waited on us like he wasn't in a hurry to close.

  • Jun 04, 2019 by Ccsvolfan

Home cooking by native Louisiana chefs. Fresh, properly cooked, delicious. Have a hot French Quarter Beignet in Bellevue, TN.

  • Jun 01, 2019 by Lisa G.

We love the staff they are always friendly. The food is great and the Hurricanes are to die for! Great food and atmosphere!

  • May 31, 2019 by Aaron G.

The food was outstanding, the portions were generous (but no too big), and the price was very reasonable! We ordered a po-boy, shrimp platter, and the crawfish étouffée. The staff was extremely kind, and efficient!

  • May 30, 2019 by rockstar89

Returned after not going in a while and I forgot how good it was! The best deal is the combo. Half a poboy (still huge) and a cup of your choice (red beans, jambalaya or gumbo). Hits the spot and not too expensive. I can’t wait to come back and get some crawfish!

  • May 26, 2019 by Adam A.

Not only was the food delicious, but the service was wonderful! It was my families first time there and the man who took our order let us sample all the gumbos so we could make a decision. They give the kids free ice cream sundaes on Sundays which was a nice surprise! We had such a great experience and are delighted to have found a great restaurant in Bellevue. Can't wait to go back!

  • May 22, 2019 by Cole K.

Great food and atmosphere. Fried oyster poboy is the best thing on the menu. A little pricey

  • May 15, 2019 by Sal Z.

Food really isn't all that great. Limited options. The bread is not good at all. Way too thick.

  • May 06, 2019 by H S.

I had the Jambalaya and my brother had the seafood gumbo, the jambalaya was fantastic with big pieces of chicken and well spiced andouille. The seafood gumbo was absolutely filled with shrimp and crab with a rich but not too heavy roux. The icing on the proverbial cake was the man at the counter, Judd, who was preposterously generous, giving us free samples of each of the gumbos we were interested in, explaining the area to us as well as the plethora of musicians and artists that regularly come in, and even giving us some free beignets at the end of our meal. Judd made an already fantastic meal into a really memorable experience and we will definitely be returning for some more delicious cajun food

  • Apr 28, 2019 by Dustin G.

Our first time here and it did not disappoint. Our daughter had it at a catered tailgate and raved about it. So we made it a destination. My youngest daughter and I both had Etouffe and my wife had Seafood Gumbo. Paired with some super crispy hot fries and some New Orleans beers and we had a wonderful dinner. The gal at the counter offered tastings of the food for us since it was our first time and provided free beignets for our first time as well! A nice taste of New Orleans on the west side of Nashville.

  • Apr 25, 2019 by Jodi Crum

In Nashville and surrounding areas for the week vacationing. Most definitely the best Cajun foods we’ve eaten during our stay.
Staff was incredibly friendly. If we lived here, this would be our favorite restaurant!

  • Apr 22, 2019 by Sheila Topp

This place is great!! The food is wonderful! The staff is very nice. They were very sweet to our kids. It was our first time to eat there so they gave us complimentary dessert. I can't wait to go back!!

  • Apr 21, 2019 by David C.

Great place, always come back when in Nashville. The catfish is especially good. Friendly staff, good food, decent prices.

  • Apr 20, 2019 by Jessica W

We love this place! Definitely a must try! Awesome food and the staff is great! On Fridays they often have a shrimp creole special that is to die for!

  • Apr 10, 2019 by Jenny Taunton

I can’t get enough! Being from Louisiana myself, I give it 100% customer satisfaction! And the staff is lovely! You don’t want to skip out on experiencing Voodoo Gumbo!

  • Apr 06, 2019 by Catie J.

We love this place. The food is consistently good and a great value. They love kiddos and are very welcoming!

  • Mar 31, 2019 by Ella D.

New restaurant in the Nashville area in the last 2 years. Food was delicious! New Orleans style food in Nashville, go figure lol. Service was excellent. Prompt and courteous. They serve select alcoholic beverages as well as coke products and  coffee. I enjoyed my seafood platter with fried catfish, shrimp and oysters with hot fries and potato salad. Potato salad was ok, no mustard or egg in it...

  • Mar 30, 2019 by Justin M.

I was surprised. The inside of this place has a nice vibe. The line moves rather fast for the size! It's a popular place and it's because the food is great! The hot fries were light, crispy, and seasoned well. The gumbo felt like it was missing something maybe some heat they have sauces at the table but at most places those sauces just don't compliment the taste the dish goes for. I was afraid to try them. I do wonder if there is a way to ask for a spicy gumbo cause that wound be awesome. I guess I'll have to find out next time i visit. I will be back!

  • Mar 24, 2019 by Jack V.

Outstanding authentic Cajun food! The strip mall exterior belies the very inviting interior. Order at the counter from a nice selection of authentic Cajun food. The poboys are served on authentic Leidenheimer's bread piled high with roast beef, oysters or delicately fried shrimp. Etouffee and gumbo are perfectly spiced and laden with plenty of seafood. A little Meters playing on the speakers and it brings you right back to Nola!

  • Mar 21, 2019 by Mary F.

Good food. Made fresh. The gumbo is delicious and pretty authentic. The Po boys are great (oh the bread!). The beignets are also fresh and powdered-sugar delicious. The people who run the place are friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend for those who like Cajun.

  • Mar 16, 2019 by Catherine S.

I'm from New Orleans and the oyster po boy reminded me of home. I'll definitely be coming back.

  • Mar 06, 2019 by Emily M.

Service was amazing but the food was sub par, the gumbo was dark which my family would call black, which is hard to get right, a lighter roux would have made it so much tastier, cajun doesn't mean spicy it means seasoned so idk why they feel the need to put chacheries seasoning on everything, i like that you can sample everything but i would tweak most of the recipes or stop calling it real cajun because it's not

  • Mar 02, 2019 by Julz Elmore

Great service for a karge group doing a Monday night meal. Flexible mix and match. Nice gumbo.

  • Mar 01, 2019 by Brian S.

We've been here a few times and enjoyed every meal. The owners have been behind the counter and that makes a difference. One night, after I had finished, they came out and told me that my portion wasn't a full one because they ran out of rice. I would not have known, there was more than enough on my plate. They brought out desert and sent me home with another meal to "make it right". That is how you do it. I enjoy spending money here and will continue to do so.

  • Mar 01, 2019 by Lsutgrs

WOW. To say the food is outstanding is an understatement. Shrimp poboy, fried alligator poboy and shrimp creole are so good it’s unbelievable. I’ve eaten at Mother’s in NO and this by far out does them. If you love Cajun food you have to try this place out.

  • Feb 27, 2019 by S B.

Walked in starving and craving some creole food. Voodoo gumbo did not disappoint. They were hospitable enough to let us sample all the gumbo's...  the only negative is that we don't live close enough to make this a part of our rotation. (2000 miles away) Can't wait to come back to Nashville!!

  • Feb 20, 2019 by Raymond D.

Still overall good, but my red beans and rice weren't hot, and there was poor communication at the register about regular and lunch special pricing that cost us $3 more than we needed to pay.  The beniets were way better than when they first opened, bigger and fluffier than cafe dumonde. Somebody probably just didn't turn up the steam high enough under the red beans, I'll let Herb know when I see him there.

  • Feb 17, 2019 by Graham B.

This is our go to place after church on Sundays! My grandma was Cajun so I know the gumbo here is for real!

  • Feb 15, 2019 by Matthew W.

  • Feb 12, 2019 by Phillip R

We have visited Voodoo Gumbo twice and the food and service have been excellent both times. Because the servings are so large we usually get a half po'boy and a cup of soup. You order at the counter and then the food is brought to your table. Usually get the shrimp or oyster po'boy and they are very good. Gumbo and red benas and rice are delicious. Reasonable prices.

  • Feb 03, 2019 by Patrick Russell

The best customer service I’ve received since moving to Nashville! They let us try some gumbos and walked us though the questions we had. Incredibly nice staff and even better tasting food! I highly recommend you check it out!

  • Feb 02, 2019 by Tammie L.

Laissez les bons temps rouler!! As a native New Orleanian I am always hesitant to try "Cajun" restaurants out of the 504 area code.  The food was excellent.  Staff was friendly and someone in the establishment is a little OCD because everything is immaculately kept and tidy. I couldn't have had a happier experience. Trust me as much as I cook, I have an idea of what me and the family like and consider "authentic".  Well I'm happy to say that I have found (with the recommendation of a 504 Belle Chase native) a real tried & true NEW ORLEANS-CAJUN restaurant with ettoufe' better tasting than what I cook at home.  If you're in the area looking for the real deal,  stop on by here cher'.  Baby let me tell ya,  it's good-good.  #lagniappe4everybody   #the504inThe615

  • Jan 24, 2019 by Libby B.

Excellent service and food was delish. My first time but I totally plan to go back. Seafood gumbo and beans and rice started us off and then we had a shrimp and a catfish Po boy. Good quality food.

  • Jan 20, 2019 by Alexandra S.

I hate that I have to change my review. Second visit here after a couple months, downgraded after the first time. Ordered a bowl of gumbo. $13. Thirteen dollars for a bowl of soup. I could've gone to any of the multitude of other restaurants surrounding and gotten an entire meal for that much. Whomever made it must've accidentally dropped the entire salt container into it. Such a waste! Many tables in empty place had food just sitting on it while everyone except cashier whispered and stared from back room. Strange.

  • Jan 18, 2019 by Sarah H

The food here is incredible. It was honestly better than most of the stuff I had in NOLA. The staff is also so incredibly sweet and nice. The food is wonderful and so filling that my boyfriend and I couldn't even finish everything. They were also kind enough to give us FRESH beignets. I will most certainly be coming back.

  • Jan 15, 2019 by MicWM

Hooweee! I’m glad I finally went to Voodoo Gumbo! I stopped in for lunch and took it back to the office. I got the chicken and sausage gumbo and mercy, it was good! I loved it so much, I took my honey there for dinner just a few days later and ate in this time. Honey got the gumbo and I got the jambalaya. Good stuff and plenty of it! We ordered a couple of beignets for dessert which was so good. We will definitely be back. This is a nice little Bellevue gem!!!

  • Jan 12, 2019 by Angie S.

Not a person who usually takes the time to post reviews, but this may have been the best etouffee I've had outside of LA. The catfish was on point, and jumbalaya was great. Don't forget to try the beignets, either. Can't wait to go back.

  • Jan 12, 2019 by Cynthia S.

The Shrimp PoBoys are okay for Nashville. If they wanted to up their game they should start with good french bread, add butter and garlic then toast! Now that would be so much better and closer to the original.

  • Jan 08, 2019 by MrWonderful

This place is WONDERFUL! I've been several times for lunch and took wife there for dinner. She loves catfish....(but need to get hushpuppies). I have had all the gumbos and favorite is crawfish etouffe.Had the half and half a couple of times also. My go to po boy is oyster. Usually have half and they really pile on the oysters. Don't know which gumbo you want ? They will give you samples. Great french bread they use. Staff is very good and want to make you happy. Going to take a friend there today for his burthday.

  • Jan 06, 2019 by David N.

Generally really good but not perfect. Basically everything we've tried (and we've tried most of the menu!) CAN be good. And that's the problem--consistency.   For example, the gumbo is generally great, however on one occasion it was very watery and on another it was far too salty. Also, I tasted freezer burn on two separate occasions in two different dishes. tl;fr--you have generally good odds to have a generally great meal here. Just don't be surprised if something's a little off.

  • Jan 04, 2019 by Alison A.

First time visiting & will definitely be back! The staff was helpful in suggesting dishes for us to order & let us try a couple before we both decided to order the etouffe.  It was delicious!  Had to add my own hot sauce since it wasn't spicy at all but I think that was on purpose to allow people to add however much they want.  Be sure to order a beignet, it was cooked fresh after we finished our meal and was so good! Tons of powdered sugar.

  • Jan 04, 2019 by Carole C.

What a great first meal in Nashville! So glad that my boyfriend found this cute little spot a minute away from where we were staying. We stopped in on a cold and rainy day so warm gumbo was a perfect choice. The service was awesome with the girl at the cash register letting us sample the gumbo before ordering. We got the seafood and chicken gumbos and both were great- this place has manufactured a perfect go-to flavor for their recipes. My boyfriend also got a sandwich that he raved about that I cannot remember the name of. Upon finishing our meals the waitress was kind enough to bring us some complimentary beignets and they were heavenly. I had never tried a beignet before but I know that these would fall onto the side of being a good beignet. You may not think that the you would find this New Orleans inspired restaurant in this small rainy town but we were so pleasantly surprised.

Voodoo Gumbo is just outside Nashville tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. The restaurant is decorated nicely and the staff are friendly, helpful, and eager to be sure you enjoy your meal. This was our first visit and as we studied the menu (you order and pay at the counter and they bring it to your table) we were offered a sample. The ettoufe was very good. I had a combo with an oyster po boy which was served on a tasty roll and very good remoulade and fixings. Others in my party had the jambalaya which was a bit dry, but flavorful, shrimp poor boy, and catfish platter. We all decided we'd be back to try other items on the menu which included a selection of desserts.

  • Dec 21, 2018 by David B

My wife and I found this place and really liked the food, except the jambalya which had no taste and was extremely dry. We went there several times and had the lunch special of a poboy and a cup of gumbo.we were steady customers and told many of our friends about it. I took a friend there yesterday for lunch and was bragging about it until I ordered. I ordered the same thing that we always order and was told it was $17.00 for the same thing we had been paying about $10.00 previously. I asked the cashier if she made a mistake and she said the prices had gone up and they no longer offered the lunch combo of the poboy and gumbo for the same price. You know must pay for the full sandwich price as well as full price for the gumbo. I decided to have a cub, not a bowl, of gumbo and a drink and it cost almost $9.00. I did enjoy the food but like so many other restaurants that get popular, they are pricing themselves out of business. This was evident by the amount of patrons compared to the last time we visited. Needless to say, we will not be returning and will no longer recommend this restaurant. There are two other cajun restaurants in Franklin that are much less expensive and just about as good. These will get my business from now on. Too bad greed has to ruin a good thing so often.

New Orleans is in Nashville and it's plated up at Voodoo Gumbo in Bellevue!  We had a great dinner tonight, food was awesome, the price really reasonable and the wait staff and management was super nice.  We were having a dinner in honor of a friend who passed (a New Orleans native) and the owner went the extra step to make our evening special.  Do yourself a favor and grab a bowl of tasty gumbo - it's the real deal! Second visit tonight.  Amazing food and friendly staff!  They are kickin it!

I love Cajun food and i have had really good Cajun food on numerous occasions in NOLA. I was so excited about coming here since I have heard wonderful things about here. Came here for a weekday lunch. Maybe I came on a bad day but I wanted the best of the best so I asked the waitress what the best dish here was. She said etouffee so I got just that. The presentation was great. I was glad I got the large because it didn't seem like a large. The etouffee was rather tasteless. I added salt and some of their home made hot sauce and i was finally able to finish eating. I will def give this place another try, just next time I will not get the etouffee. However im adding one star giving this business 4 stars because after speaking with the owner i could tell he really cares about his customers and want to try his best to satisfy every customer i certainly support a hard working local business owner.

  • Dec 02, 2018 by Patricia L.

The service was great from the start. We were greeted with a smile and a sample to be sure of what we wanted. YUMMY!!! The jambalaya and gumbo were both bursting with flavor. I'll come back again after my business trip is over and I'm headed home.

  • Dec 02, 2018 by A R.

I called during my 45 Minute wait at Loveless Cafe to check the wait time here.  Guess what?  They had no wait so we headed right over.       We were not sure if they had table service or if we should order at the counter.  They take orders at the counter, give you a number to place on your table, and they bring the food to you.  The soft drinks are self serve.        Now they do not have biscuits like the Loveless Cafe, but they do have Beignets.  Ours came out hot with plenty of Powered Sugar.  Also try the fried shrimp.  They were lightly battered and delicious as well.        Herb (one of the co-owners) came by to check on us, not once, not twice, but three times.  Talk about caring about your customer's experience!  He was very generous to us.  I will not forget his kindness.  This was our last meal in Nashville and it did not disappoint!

  • Dec 01, 2018 by Tonja C.

Delicious food and amazing staff! Everytime I come in they are always so friendly and always make us feel like family. My son loves coming in to get ice cream and their gumbo and beignets are absolutely amazing!

  • Nov 26, 2018 by Dustin A.

Hands down such a wonderful experience... my brother and I stopped in after a game. I haven't been in town in about 5years and he had suggested the place. We tried 4 different entrees and 1 appetizer. The gator bites where awesome with a sweet chili sauce. I would have to say if you want something that will fulfill all of your tastebuds. The etouffee was amazing and the seafood gumbo is a lighter but superior option. Enjoy it all... Can't wait to bring my wife. Also take care of your fed ex guy!!!

  • Nov 23, 2018 by Forrest S.

The owner somehow got my first review removed from yelp for "not being relevant". Not sure how that was even possible but it happened. I ate here when it first opened and was NOT pleased with the food. It was way over priced for what it was. It was an over salted mediocre bowl of watery gumbo. And for me of all people to say something is over salted is like an Italian saying the marinara has too many tomatoes! The gumbo sent me RUNNING to the toilet within minutes and if the bathroom wasn't within 20 feet I would have soiling myself! It was really that bad. Aside from being a good replacement for a laxative the flavor was not what I would call authentic cajun. I have spent years eating in New Orleans and the surrounding parishes but this stuff tasted like it came from a Campbells soup can. I don't care where the owners family is from. I know plenty of people that were born and raised in the south but that doesn't automatically make them good southern cooks. You may enjoy it if you like canned gumbo or have never tasted REAL cajun food. Just bring some anti-diarrhea meds with you. Trust me.

The wife and I happened to be in Bellevue one Friday noon, so we stopped for lunch at a place called Voodoo Gumbo. The food was so good that we went back a few weeks later and brought a friend from Texas. All three of us left happy and well fed. On our first visit, I tried a bowl of their chicken and sausage gumbo. It was a fairly thick gumbo with plenty of andouille sausage and chicken. It had been some five years since my last New Orleans gumbo, but it had a lot more kick than what was served here. My wife got  a huge shrimp remoulade entrée salad, a luscious dish on a hot day. On our next visit, a bowl of crawfish étouffée was my lunch. In the lake of goodness in my bowl, shrimp and crawfish tails abounded. Now I haven't  eaten haven't eaten any crawfish étoufée in over twenty years, so I've forgotten exactly how it should taste. Still, it could have used a bit of black pepper- well, quite a bit. My wife, again, got the shrimp remoulade entrée salad. Oh how the creamy remoulade sauce enveloped the shrimp. That dish must be a real winner! Our guest from Texas ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo. She really liked it but remarked that it could be more spicy. The food that Voodoo Gumbo serves captures the spirit of New Orleans food. Granted, it's not a fancy place, but the people are friendly & helpful and the food is remarkable. Four stars for Voodoo Gumbo.

  • Nov 13, 2018 by Crystal H.

This place is absolutely stellar. The owners are extremely nice and helpful, the food is very authentic, probably because they are from New Orleans! I haven't had anything on the menu I didn't like. I also enjoy that you can make it as hot as you like with their caijun spices/sauces on the tables. The baguettes are free... Just ask for them with your meal, I got 2. They are especially nice and patient with children also.

  • Nov 13, 2018 by Kristine S.

We've tried this place a few times and keep trying it because we really do want to like it. But... every time we go back, we're reminded why it's not on our favorites list. The po'boy sandwiches are decent. The jambalaya is okay, but is one note and mushy. But what really pushed us over the edge was the seafood gumbo -- holy salt!! It's SUPER salty and doesn't have a dark roux. Seriously, my mouth is slightly burned from all of the salt. The staff is very nice, but we will continue our hunt for legit creole cooking and seafood gumbo.

  • Nov 08, 2018 by Mercedi S.

Just now I walked in and stood at the counter wanting to order some food to go. Four people stood there looking at me and no one greeted me or said anything. There were no customers in the restaurant and one server stood leaning on the counter with her back to me , looking over her shoulder at me but saying nothing. I stood there until it got awkward. Since four people refused to greet me or take my order I walked out. A note to the owners...customers do not like to feel invisible or like a bother to the employees. This is not the kind of place I want to give my business to.

  • Nov 06, 2018 by Kirtley W.

This place is as close to authentic New Orleans cuisine as you will get outside of Louisiana.  Actually,  it's so good that you can't tell the difference, and I've spent lots of time in New Orleans and in southern LA in general.  I've eaten here several times and tried most everything on the menu.  It's all on point!  Do yourself a favor and give it a try!

  • Oct 29, 2018 by will s.

Probably the best Cajun/Creole restaurant in Nashville. The oyster poboy is on point as well as the étouffée and gumbo.

  • Oct 23, 2018 by Jaime L.

First time in last week and wow! Had the seafood gumbo and was amazing. Should've ordered the large. Kids had the chicken tenders and they were equally delicious. Not the frozen kind. Kids meal come with an ice cream sundae, in which kids get to choose what they want on top. They even spell out kid's name on the bowl. So cute! They offered my son a beignet when he turned down the sundae since he doesn't care for vanilla. Great food and great service. We'll be back when in area.

  • Oct 23, 2018 by Jennifer J.

The food here is so amazing! If you like creole comfort food this is your spot. The crawfish etoufee is my fave. Really affordable and convenient and quick. The staff is always sweet and accommodating and really make it an overall great experience.

  • Oct 21, 2018 by William M.

This one of the best Cajun food outside of New Orleans. We came from Louisville Ky to a salon in Nashville because a promise I made to my niece. We had time and she check the name of a restaurant that I had never heard of and decided to check it out. It was wonderful from the moment we walked. The cashier was the most polite, positive and helpful cashier I have ever meet in a business. She made us want to try every food. She even offered and gave us samples of the food we thought we wanted to try. It only took a sample spoon full to know this was the real McCoy of Cajun cooking. Not over spiced, not under spiced, but perfectly spiced. The crawfish/shrimp étouffée was nothing less than marvelous, the same with the gumbo. Every spoonful was a bust of Cajun flavor. You know food is good when the last spoonful taste as good as the first. Its the kind of sauce that you let lay on your tongue before you swallow. We have a half and half. A bowel of the gumbos and half of a po-boy sandwich ($10). The shrimp was perfectly cooked and the it wasn't over powered by the toppings. So good and so fresh. The the icing on the cake the, beignet. That was marvelous, especially dipped in the cherry sauce. Ok getting hungry again. There is only one, so if you get the chance try it. Nashville got a favorite city to eat spot on my list. The owner even came out to ask if the food was good, I said no this food is great. 170 mile is never to far to drive occasionally for good Cajun food. I add two more **'s.

  • Oct 21, 2018 by Kasey F.

Amazing. Staff was extremely friendly right off the bat and gave us samples of the etouffee. Well, it didn't take much longer to decide after sampling because that's some of the best etouffee I've ever had in my life. We ordered the gator bites as well and they were exceptional. I'm a happy camper and will be back.

  • Oct 19, 2018 by Jerry H.

Terrific food- all is good, you can't go wrong.  Wonderful service as well.  So glad to have them in Bellevue!

  • Oct 14, 2018 by Gregory B.

On FaceBook, anything other than a sterling review of voodoo gumbo can get you banned from one of the Bellevue groups, so I am risking a bit by saying the place is average. :D If you have not been, Voodoo Gumbo is nestled behind the McDonalds on 70S and Old Hickory, next to Sams Kabab Gyro and a few down from Jersey Mikes. The food style is Cajun, which should be obvious from the name. And you find the staples of Cajun cuisine, including Jambalaya, Etouffee and the namesake Gumbo. Service is friendly and fast. Atmosphere is very casual. And the food has the right Cajun flavors. I feel it is a bit too "Americanized" for my tastes, but I went in with someone who has a "wimpy" palette who loved it. As far as Cajun food goes, this one is pretty marginal to me. Tastes fine, but does not completely capture the essence I have experienced in Louisiana. If you can't take the kick, you will likely prefer Voodoo Gumbo from the more authentic experience. I also find it a bit pricey compared to other restaurants in Nashville with similar ingredients. Note that I am talking the non-seafood options, as I developed a sucky shellfish allergy as an adult, so I can no longer have scrumptious shrimp and crawfish. I also think some of their items are a bit overpriced for the quality. I would not call it expensive, just a bit more than what I expect for the food. To be honest, I am surprised at the "this is most authentic Cajun food ever" reviews, as I found it rather meh in comparison. Personally, I would not return, although my friend said he liked it and was glad we took a trip, so different strokes for different folks? I would say it is for those who like the idea of Cajun, but would find Louisiana level Cajun way too hot.

  • Oct 13, 2018 by Don G.

Tasty seafood gumbo, delicious red beans and rice and creole jambalaya was pretty good as well. Gator bites were just okay. Beignets were piping hot and delicious ! !

  • Oct 13, 2018 by Jay F.

Stopped by for the first time and got a catfish po boy. It was awesome and tasted good and clean. Looked very nice on the inside and it was very clean. They have all the Authentic cajun chips, condiments and most importantly bread. Nice spot to try and Herb is the nicest guy ever.

  • Oct 10, 2018 by JD G.

I never write Yelp reviews but Let me tell you this place is great.  I had the Catfish Po'Boy and a cup of Chicken Sausage gumbo.  It was amazing.  The place is clean.  The vibe is good.  The girl with the nose ring behind the counter was super helpful. And the French bread is good.  Also they keep Zapps Chips in the building so you know its good.  Whenever I find myself in Bellevue, you'll find me at Voodoo Gumbo!

  • Oct 02, 2018 by David W

Drove from Hendersonville to try this place out , wast of time . Just ordinary , best thing going was the bread , very close to N.O. backer's Gambinoe's . Seafood Gumbo was ok Jambalaya was not that great , very salty . I had roast beef po boy , skimpy .......true cajun is huge ............prices little high

  • Oct 01, 2018 by Scott H.

Great Po-boys (the authentic bread is awesome!!) and great atmosphere.  I'm from the New Orleans area and it's the closest thing to home I can get here in Nashville.  Our kids love coming here to the point we have to put a limit on how many times we go.  The gumbo and etouffe base make then about the same and a little on the salty side but still taste great.  The owner(s) are friendly and personable.  Please frequent them!  We can't go every day!

  • Sep 23, 2018 by Shauna S.

Great food and free ice cream sundaes for the kids. NOLA feel with great music. We will be back.

  • Sep 16, 2018 by Chris A.

Came in here after a yelp recommendation. The place was completely empty but the food was so so good. I got the Shrimp Po Boy and a gumbo. The rémoulade was absolutely delicious. I ate here with a New Orleans native and she said it was good. I value her opinion highly. Since I wanted to try both, I got the half order of each. It's similar to like what panera does. I totally recommend.

  • Sep 16, 2018 by Leah S.

Moved from BR to TN this year. It's hard to find authentic Cajun food above I-10 but this is almost perfect. A warning to true Cajuns: there's no Tony's here  that's the only major complaint. They've got all the other fixins. Zapps, Abita, tobasco, slap yo mama, and crystal! It's a great taste of home. And for those trying to stay healthier, they have one salad on the menu but it's beautiful and fresh. Nice to have a restaurant put effort into a salad when most don't!

  • Sep 12, 2018 by Steven R.

Recently moved here from Shreveport and hands down, can't find a more authentic place outside Louisiana! Had the combo Oyster Poboy and Etou...

  • Sep 10, 2018 by Dave M.

This is one of the best cajun food experiences I've had outside of New Orleans.  I've had lunch here twice while in Nashville visiting my parents, who live about two miles away.  I've tried a smattering of selections namely the gumbo, red beans and rice, oyster poboy, shrimp poboy, and the alligator bites.  All were quite fresh and very satisfying.  The thai chili sauce that comes with the alligator is killer.  The ordering process is a little annoying because sometimes you need to stand in a long line, and the folks at the register are super cool so customers sort of chat with them, and well, this makes the line go slower.  But honestly the food is so good I kinda don't care, and plan to keep dropping by this place with my parents when I'm visiting from San Francisco.

  • Sep 09, 2018 by Adrian H.

Great food and service! It's the most authentic Louisiana cuisine we've had since moving to Nashville! We've eaten from this establishment twice and have not been disappointed!

  • Sep 08, 2018 by Barry P.

Our hands down favorite place to eat in the Bellevue area. Fantastic food. We have tried the shrimp, catfish and oyster Po Boys. The sausage and chicken gumbo, shrimp gumbo, etouffe, red beans & rice, are all great. Hard to make up our minds. Oh, for a real treat save room for a beignet. Everything is full of flavor and is not spicy as some might think. They have hot sauce on hand if you need to kick it up.

  • Sep 07, 2018 by Jeannie G.

This is probably one of the best Cajun food restaurants in the area. The seafood gumbo and chicken and sausage gumbo were delicious, as were the beignets and the owners are super friendly and helpful. They went out of their way to help me get beignets to my work colleagues for breakfast before the restaurant even opened at 11am. They were amazing and love their customers. It's hard to find great food and quality service these days.

  • Sep 01, 2018 by Ryan P.

Excellent food, pretty good staff. Definitely recommend the beignets after your meal. I had the shrimp po-boy and gumbo combo. Packed with flavor!

  • Aug 30, 2018 by Buzz S

I have lived in Nashville for over 30 years. There is no better seafood to be found in this town. I was raised near New Orleans and I can promise you these guys are the real thing!! Reasonably priced. Great poboys, etouffee and gumbo.

  • Aug 25, 2018 by loveuguys

First off, the food is delish. I wish it was a sit down place. I am not a fan of self serve for the price of the meal. The employees were friendly and helpful.

  • Aug 20, 2018 by Kim C.

That southern hospitality is definitely unbeatable. Service was spectacular and I wish we got to try everything from the menu. We ordered the half and half combo (Catfish Poboy & Étouffee), which was just enough food for the two of us, and I requested the fried oysters as an appetizer, and they were able to accommodate. Thank you Voodoo Gumbo, I will recommend this place to all my west coast friends visiting Nashville! ps: The margaritas were quite strong. Delicious and strong!

  • Aug 11, 2018 by 383chuckb

On a recent business trip, I found Voodoo Gumbo near my meeting and want to give it a try. I had the oyster poboy and it was absolutely awesome. The oysters were perfectly prepared. An associated tried the roast beef poboy and loved it. The prices were above average but considering the quality, I will definitely be back.

  • Aug 05, 2018 by Cody B.

Excellent food and service! There was a brief power outage tonight that threw the kitchen and our order off. Anyways our food ended up coming out way late. I was definitely hungry when the food came out but the reason I'm writing this review and giving five stars is the way they handled it. The server, the other girl who came to our table and the general manager who all came by our table were very apologetic, attended to us well, and the GM brought our refunded checks. It's gonna happen in good service, it's how you handle the situation when it does happen that makes a good place. Everything tasted excellent and I will be back!

  • Aug 01, 2018 by Barb S.

Yum. Delicious! Fabulous service!  Supernice people! Clean place and cozy. Seriously delicious gumbo. Yum.

  • Jul 30, 2018 by Charles L.

Wow this place has the best Po-boys and gumbo I've ever had. Friendly staff and excellent service helps too! Get the etoufèe it is best thing on the menu. The beignets were made to order hot and fresh which was a nice way to finish my meal. I highly recommend this unassuming strip mall eatery if you're anywhere near the area.

  • Jul 30, 2018 by Mary B.

OMG!!  This is the BEST NOLA food I have ever put in my mouth. The shrimp poboy beat the last one I had in NOLA, itself. The gumbo is exceeded in flavor only by the etoufee. You will want to lick the bowl, but you don't have to because it is served with authentic Leidenheimer bread straight from NOLA. The beignets beat Cafe du Monde. Service is friendly and efficient and the health department score is 99. As far as I can tell, there's nothing to do to improve Voodoo Gumbo - except to open one in Fort Worth. We will definitely be back!!!

  • Jul 30, 2018 by Tevin N.

Being from New Orleans, I wasn't impressed at all. Sidenote, the Hurricane (drink) was good.

  • Jul 27, 2018 by Jeanine_RR

So, in fairness, this is probably my first authentic Cajun experience. First, the seafood Gumbo tasted magical. Savory, buttery, seafood deliciousness. My husband and I got different things so we could both taste the others food. His Jambalaya was a bit on the bland side. As was the shrimp Po Boy. Maybe this was done to cater for the public in general and you are suppose to "season to taste", but I personally didn't like needing to add a bunch of seasoning and hot sauce to my meal in order for it to have a "popping flavor". They also seemed fairly busy, but our Gumbo and Jambalaya didn't seem hot enough either. Maybe they can't have it super hot since they serve everything in disposable containers. I don't know. I just wish the food was hotter physically and on a spice level. It was a nice place to try and I will never forget the Gumbo, but it's probably not a place we would seek out and return to again.

  • Jul 21, 2018 by Jill D.

The best gumbo in town.  The jambalaya is so good that I crave it after a week without.  The bread for Po Boys is brought in from New Orleans and is perfect for the sandwiches;  I have tried the shrimp and the oyster, both fresh and delicious.  Friendly staff, the restaurant is housed in a re-purposed DQ.

  • Jul 20, 2018 by Lisa H.

Omgoosh!!! So yummy!!! Highly recommend! Never been to NOLA so don't know if it is authentic or not but exactly what I was going for. Would love to have this in Texas! Unfortunately not possible being that it is not a chain...maybe they have a desire to move to me??????

  • Jul 19, 2018 by Kevin B.

I love Cajun food, especially gumbo. I make it at home pretty often and I'm not an exceptional cook by any means but I'd be ashamed to serve the gumbo I had here today. It was bland, to say the least and the texture was mushy. I can understand trying to not over salt, too, but bread needs it otherwise it's just tasteless. The shrimp in my po boy was fair, but again, very bland. And being in the height of tomato season you'd think they could have found better ones. All in all, a disappointment, especially considering all the 5 star reviews. I can only assume they've never had good gumbo.

  • Jul 15, 2018 by Rafaella G.

5 stars for the amazing etouffee . The bowl easily feeds two ppl if you ask for more rice on the side. It has shrimp and crawfish in large quantities. You order on the counter and they bring to you. Spacious and super clean. Good jazz playing. The French bread is also real good. I will definitely be back to try their gumbo and poBoy.

  • Jul 03, 2018 by Kelly R.

The reviews of this place are so good, I wasn't sure they were real...but they are! Best shrimp poboy I've had and I used to live in South MS. Recommended!

  • Jul 02, 2018 by John S.

Have eaten here 4 times and each meal has been excellent. Fairly authentic Cajun cuisine.   Good atmosphere and service.

  • Jun 28, 2018 by Mike R.

Lord.  Not a thing on the menu has left me anything but satisfied and impressed.  Dangerous having this place walking distance from my office.

  • Jun 26, 2018 by Cheryl D.

Excellent food! If anyone has anaphylaxis to peanuts etc., don't eat the gumbo before checking on it! It may still have peanuts in the base. Ask first before ordering, this could have changed. Also, if this hasn't been stated in the menu, it should be. The staff was kind and paid special attention to our son!! Everything tasted great and gave me a little snapshot of being in New Orleans! My husband tricked me into eating an alligator nugget, lol. Troy on "Swamp People" would have been proud of him lol!

  • Jun 24, 2018 by Jim R.

I've been in Nashville a while, but grew up eating authentic Cajun along the gulf coast. Voodoo Gumbo is authentic and refreshing in a town full of wannabes. My very favorite is the Crawfish etouffe, but I routinely switch up because the gumbo and jambalaya are very good as well. The Po-boy and bowl combo give you a chance to try both. Every visit, I have to have an order of begniets. It'll make you think you're in the quarter.

  • Jun 23, 2018 by Brady R.

The food was superb and I'm a Cajun from South Louisiana if that means anything. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is for a lack of draft beer and the restaurant is a bit boring - typical of strip-mall-type locations.  I had both the chicken and sausage gumbo and crayfish etoufee. Both were among the best I've eaten anywhere.

  • Jun 17, 2018 by Steve G.

Take me home, cher! Found this new Cajun place and it's legit! Their half and half special- po-boys and etouffe or jambalaya- amazing! The etouffe especially is creamy, crazy good!! Don't forget the Beignets - so good. Nice folks too. Good prices.

  • Jun 11, 2018 by Rane M.

Shrimp gumbo is delicious! Beer selection is awesome, and the new decor is beautiful! Great atmosphere. Makes me miss New Orleans....

  • Jun 07, 2018 by steven f

We were furious after eating at Voodoo Gumbo to discover it's been open over a year and we didn't know about it! Friendly service with an instant offer to let us sample anything that looked inviting. We had a hard choice between the crawfish etouffee and shrimp gumbo. Both were delicious, but we went with the 8-ounce bowl of crawfish etouffee and a 6-inch roast beef and gravy po boy. The bread is flown in from New Orleans and is the perfect complement to the meal. We'll be back!

  • Jun 07, 2018 by Allie S.

Nothing but great food every time I've been! Order at the counter, get a number, fill up your drink cup, grab a table and they bring your food to you! Effortless and good service!

  • May 14, 2018 by Māra K.

Great food.  Great service.  Extremely friendly staff.  Try the shrimp po boy.  You will love it.

  • May 11, 2018 by George A.

Something totally different in Bellevue!  Have been twice and seen friends who grew up in New Orleans both times. They agree it is the best Cajun food in the area. Really like the po boys and gumbo. And the beneits are excellent. Totally casual.

  • Apr 24, 2018 by Ren G.

My wife and I discovered this jewel after relocating to Bellevue. Great food and reasonably priced. Don't let the name fool you, they have a crawfish étouffée that is impeccable.

  • Apr 24, 2018 by Darrell W.

Food was incredible.  I was worried it would be spicy, but it wasn't.  I tried the Catfish Poboy, red beans and rice as well as the Jambalaya.  I ended up taking some to go.  They gave a taster of the étouffée.  It was a bit fishy for me but delicious. I may stop back by here on my way back to KY for some to-go containers for the family.

Being from Southeast Louisiana, any gumbo or creole or cajun restaurant raises my skepticism. My sister is transplanted to Nashville and has discovered this shop and promised that it was like home. Herb Tassin and his brother have authentic gumbo and awesome po-boys. He does not use the po-boy bread because he said most poeple in Tn found it too crunchy; but he does use a suitable substitute. I ordered some gumbo for my husband who could not attend because he was recovering from a nasty stomach virus. Herb sent me home with an additional supply of mostly strained gumbo. How very thoughtful. Oh, and his beignets are definitely authentic. I hope that his restaurant does very well. Storefront is casual and prices are good for the quality. Bon Appetite!!

I just had Voodoo for the first time (ordered dinner through postmates) and I have 100% found my new favorite restaurant in Bellevue, and I can't believe I've been missing out on this place for the 2 years that I've lived here. I had the half & half and went with the roast beef & gravy poboy & shrimp gumbo. Both were FANTASTIC! So flavorful and huge portions. I'm originally from East Texas & have visited New Orleans several times. I have had plenty of good, authentic Cajun food and this place is just as good as the Cajun food in TX & LA. I will definitely be back!

  • Apr 13, 2018 by Tristian W.

Expensive and underwhelming food selection and taste. I was surprised at how little food you're given for the high price.  Food also lacked seasoning and flavor. Great concept but not worth the price. I'm all for small business but I feel as though they may be attempting to take advantage of the wealthy people in this area. Not worth the money.

  • Apr 10, 2018 by Chris M.

Both the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo and Shrimp Gumbo are so delicious it's hard to pick between them. The Beignets (a light and fluffy pasty covered with powdered sugar) are also good.  And the Gator Bites served with an amazing sweet jelly are a must! The prices are a little high in my option but they have quality over quantity.

  • Apr 01, 2018 by Chris H.

My son recommended I try this place because he had worked there in the summer. His review was spot on! My complaint with most PoBoy sandwiches is the bread. The bread here is excellent. Tender fresh and easy to bite through. The shrimp was battered to perfection, lite not greasy and fresh tasting. My friends tried the gumbo and enjoyed it as well. If I lived in Nashville VooDoo Gumbo would be on my go to list.

  • Mar 31, 2018 by Aaron R.

Everything I've had has been as close to New Orleans as I've had (it doesn't hurt that they bring the bread in from NOLA). So far I've had the gumbo, shrimp po' boy and etouffee (and beignets of course) - all have been excellent. What really hits the 5th star on the review is the amazing customer service provided. The (I'm assuming) owner genuinely cares about you having a great experience here.

Good food and friendly staff. Our meals tasted authentic, delicious, and flavorful. My toddler loved everything too! Need to go back soon.

  • Mar 25, 2018 by Davud J.

Delicious. Etoufee is great as are poboys. Staff is nice. Beignets are light and tasty. I'd recommend it.

  • Mar 23, 2018 by Scott W.

Authentic Cajun seafood at its best! Overstuffed oyster PoBoy was amazing, the bread was delicious as well! Restaurant is small and doesn't stand out from the outside but the food is the best New Orleans style that I've found in Nashville. Lunch combo was 10.99, expect to spend about 12-15 for a 6" sub but you will have plenty to eat.

  • Mar 17, 2018 by arthurf807

Wanted a non chain place to eat. This came up on this app. Great friendly atmosphere & staff. Huge portions (you will not leave hungry if you do a bowl). Very flavorful. Highly recommended.

  • Mar 17, 2018 by Julia S.

Love this place. Clean, friendly and good service. Love the etoufee and shrimp Bo-boy.

  • Mar 14, 2018 by Laila P

The food is delicious here and reasonably priced. I had the shrimp gumbo and my husband had a shrimp poboy and chicken and sausage gumbo. Tasted like what we had in New Orleans. We will be back!

  • Mar 10, 2018 by Michael L.

My son and I went for dinner last night. It was our first time there. We both got the 6 inch shrimp po boy. I had a cup of the shrimp gumbo, and he had the red beans and rice. The red beans and rice was fantastic! The gumbo was very good. The sandwiches were also excellent!  I look forward to trying out more of the menu!

  • Mar 02, 2018 by Tara W.

I got the half po' boy and shrimp gumbo special, it was delicious!!  The portions are huge, it was more than I could eat. The place was busy, but the service was extremely quick. All the employees were incredibly nice, service was excellent! I can't wait to come back.

  • Mar 02, 2018 by Gary M.

What can I say... this place is amazing!  I am from the Bayou and I love, love, love these Poboys!!!  Hands down THE MOST LEGIT POBOY IN NASHVILLE!!!  You don't need a hipster "our take" on a Poboy, you need a REAL Poboy from VooDoo! ...Oh and the Beignets are Cafe du Monde level!!!  Bring the kids, my three feel right at home here!!! For real...  I really miss the Bayou and when I'm here, I feel like I'm home!  Thank you VooDoo!

  • Feb 27, 2018 by Lindsay F.

Voodoo Gumbo is my new favorite restaurant in Bellevue and one of my favorites in all of Nashville. This unassuming strip mall restaurant serves up AMAZING shrimp and oyster poboys (on Leidenheimer's French Bread, no less) and the Crawfish Etouffee is the best I've ever tasted. When I'm watching calories, the shrimp salad is unbeatable -- Voodoo Gumbo's remoulade is so good, we take any extra home with us! This place is always busy and totally worth the wait in line. Highly recommended.

  • Feb 26, 2018 by Jake J.

Easily the best place to eat in Bellevue. Their crawfish etouffee is delicious, and their Po Boys are loaded down (unlike most places you'll visit). The staff is very kind and efficient. Oh, and the beignets. Get an order. You won't regret it.

  • Feb 25, 2018 by Tiffany T.

Today was the third time I enjoyed a meal at Voodoo Gumbo. Staff is always super friendly. I've had the gumbo, jambalaya, and beignets. Everything has that home cooked flavor and the beignets are SO GOOD. The decor is plain but clean. I love the music - always jazzy/swing. Prices are great for what you get. If you are on the fence about visiting, you need to!

  • Feb 25, 2018 by Zara K.

I haven't been to New Orleans so I really have no benchmark to authentic Nola cuisine. Voodoo gumbo was delightful introduction to NOLA cuisine. I absolutely enjoyed the vibe of Voodoo- low key (as in a spacious sit down restaurant, neat and clean but nothing fancy) and happy new orleans jazz music livening up the mood. Who doesn't love a place that will make you happy as you walk in? They offer samples of the gumbo and ettouffee. The other great thing about this place is the price point- Very reasonable. I wish I was hungry but we came in for a light snack, so chose to share a half and half- we went with half portion of shrimp poboy and half portion of crawfish ettouffee. And they were good for the price of $11! I can't say how I would have liked it better but according to my husband who visited New Orleans, the flavors were close to the real deal. The shrimp was crunchy and the po-boy generously loaded. The ettouffee didn't skimp on the crawfish, even on half the portion. The flavor was delicious and consistency of the ettouffee was very comforting. Oh and the french bread was soft- I generally don't like it hard, so this was delightfully soft. Now the beignets are huge for the price- 3 large ones for the price of $5. These were delicious...they looked like pillows of sweetness and tasted just like that- perfectly sweet (not too sweet so the sugar was well balanced in my opinion), warm, soft and very comforting! I haven't had alligator before, so I look forward to trying the gator bites sometime. All I can say is if you are in the area and seeking a casual fare, voodoo gumbo is delicious and recommended. Their price point is great, vibe is casual and lively, and food is deliciously comforting.

Wow, this place is great! The shrimp gumbo and shrimp poboy were on point! All shrimp is from the gulf. The staff was super kid and accommodating. They will even let you sample things before you buy. Walk up and order, then the food is brought to your table. If you like NOLA style food, this is the place for you!

  • Feb 22, 2018 by Mary V.

So I get the oyster poboy and love it. The etouffee is great also. Food comes out hot. The staff is patient, attentive and very helpful. I have been here twice in the last week. Get my meal to go, but there is a nice size dining area for a strip mall restaurant. Would recommend to anyone!

Ordered crawfish etoufee, shrimp po-boy, red beans and rice for take out. EVERYTHING was delicious! The hot french bread that came with the meals was perfect. Restaurant was very clean, staff extremely nice, loved the New Orleans music in the background and atmosphere. They don't have a 50-item menu. They focus on serving gumbos, etouffee, jambalaya, red beans & rice, poboys, and a shrimp remoulade entree salad. They offer 'half and half' options to give you the opportunity to try a sample of different dishes. The current kids meal offers a shirmp and chips or a grilled cheese sandwich and chips. I have not tried the beignets, but look forward to some during my next visit. They offer sides of potato salad, cole slaw, Zapp's chips, and gator bites. Their take home menu states that some menu items are subject to change, but I have a strong feeling the menu items will stay within the New Orleans theme. They offer portions from 8 oz to 128 oz of the gumbos, etouffee, jambalya and red beans and rice. Reasonably priced and will go back again. They just received a health inspection score of 99 this week too!

  • Feb 16, 2018 by Nike O.

Yummy! As others have said, the crawfish etoufee is so buttery smooth. It's delicious. The shrimp on the PoBoys is lightly battered and well spiced but not spicy. The remoulade adds some spice.

  • Feb 15, 2018 by Kyle C.

Man, what a great spot. Like other people have said, don't come here for the ambience, but don't shy away from it either! Killer fresh lunch special. Owner will tell you everything is good and he's not lying!

  • Feb 14, 2018 by Thomas K.

Voodoo Gumbo has quickly become a passion of mine.  Let me tell you why: Courteous service every time I've gone in.  There is an apparent pride in their food and in their restaurant.  The staff is attentive, prompt and the restaurant is clean.   I'd go just for that but there's more. I truly savor the poor boy sandwiches.  The roll it's served on is light, soft inside with crispy exterior.  I've had the catfish and shrimp versions and both came loaded with the fish or shrimp.  The taste is superb and the batter is light and flavorful.  It is truly a joy to eat. A six inch sandwich with a bowl of their Cajun gumbo/jambalaya/ etouffee  fills me (220 lb man) perfectly.   The Cajun inspired side dish is delicious in an of itself.   Spices and sauces are available to add some heat for those who like that. For the price, I walk away feeling satisfied and encouraged to come back again soon. Thank you Voodoo Gumbo for getting it right!

  • Feb 10, 2018 by Bill55055

My lunch combo of Chicken-sausage Gumbo and half shrimp po-boy was simply divine. In fact so good after I left i returned to get a bowl of Gumbo to take to my wife at the Hotel. I am originally from Louisiana and the food here is as good as any I've had.

If you love Creole/Cajun/French food, bring your old self to Voodoo Gumbo in Bellevue TN.  The atmosphere? Forget about it.  It's in a strip mall next to T-Mobile and down from TJ MAXX... When you walk in, your knees will get weak from the smells of the Cajun roux wafting through your nostrils. Your mouth will start to water and.. oh, Mama..   My son-in-law and I were absolutely  BLOWN AWAY with the taste.  100% authentic Po Boys, Creole gumbo, Étouffée,, Gator bites... everything is so delicious. I Mean Everything.  The bread was as good as any restaurant in New Orleans.  This place is just so good.. They have  delicious New Orleans' Abita brewed beer, both Amber & Purple Haze;  Ice-cold Barq's root-beer...(goes great with a Shrimp 'Po Boy) You and your family get on down go to Voodoo Gumbo. One more thing.. They have a lunch special.  For $8.75, you get any 'Po Boy, your choice..  Gumbo, Étouffée, Red Beans & Rice, or Jambalaya AND a beverage of your choice.   Ooooh Yeah.  They have Crawfish, Gulf Shrimp, Roast Beef, and Catfish 'Po Boys.  The Alligator Bites are as good as anywhere in Jefferson Parrish.  Paradise Found in Bellevue.  Thank you Voodoo Gumbo!!  Keep those doors open, please!!!!!

Who Dat!!!!! Voodoo Gumbo is the real deal... You go on and enjoy yourself!! Authentic deliciousness in Bellevue.. Love it and y'all will to.

  • Feb 03, 2018 by Sharlene W.

This is a very good Louisiana Chicken and Sausage Gumbo. I loved the Gumbo, it was the best I have had in the Nashville area!

  • Feb 03, 2018 by Leanne M.

Stopped in here on advice from a friend. Had the crawfish etouffee and an oyster po boy. SO GOOD!  Cannot wait to return!!!

  • Jan 30, 2018 by Annelise Y.

So I only had the jambalaya but for $13.95, the portion size was extremelyyyyy overpriced. My partner's family is from southern Louisiana and felt the same. I will say the portions for sandwiches I saw coming out were much better.

  • Jan 30, 2018 by James M.

What a great restaurant!!!! Food is incredible!!! Wow!!! We are so fortunate to have this restaurant! Great service/great Great food again! A bit of an issue with the timeliness of our order but they caught and made it right! Kudos to them!

  • Jan 24, 2018 by heidia878

Friend who grew up in LA recommended to us. We were warmly greeted & menu items explained & recommendations given. We got Crawfish Étouffée, Shrimp Po Boy & Catfish Po Boy. All our food was great! Big portions. We’ll be back.

  • Jan 24, 2018 by Marianne S.

First time here. We were about to get gyros but my boyfriend suggested we try voodoo gumbo. I'm really glad we stopped in! The staff was very nice and upbeat. We got the shrimp po'boy and jambalaya. It was really good! Restaurant was really clean and well lit but not overwhelmingly bright- calm and relaxing ambiance. We will definitely be back.

  • Jan 22, 2018 by C-Mac E.

Checked this place out while house-hunting in the area, and my family is very pleased we are going to be living just up the road from such quality Cajun food.  The menu may be limited, but you really need nothing else.  We had the red beans and rice and the chicken and sausage gumbo.  The latter was a better treatment for the cold my wife was suffering form of the time.  We get Cajun wherever and wherever we can and this has been some of the best we've found anywhere, at least anywhere outside of Louisiana.  Quick gator bites in Nashville?  Better than anything we could have hoped for in our new neighborhood!

  • Jan 20, 2018 by BigGavin

We were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary and wanted Gulf shores seafood. Chappy's is no longer here where went the 2nd day after our wedding, so we started looking for something that served similar cuisine and found this place. The food is wonderful, tastes just like being on the coast. We will be going back again soon.

  • Jan 20, 2018 by Cami J.

Excellent lunch today at Voodoo - I had the cup of shrimp gumbo and 1/2 oyster po'boy. Totally authentic, fresh, and delicious!

  • Jan 14, 2018 by Gray V.

One of my favorite places to eat. The staff is friendly and the food delicious. Love the music and relaxing atmosphere.

  • Jan 14, 2018 by Melissa L.

Yum. Went for lunch. Very good food. We got the gumbo, shrimp poboy with remoulade, and ettoufee. Reasonable price! Great service. Reminded me how much I love eating local.

  • Jan 12, 2018 by Tom D.

Excellent food and service. We had the chicken and sausage gumbo as well as the jambalaya; both were phenomenal. The gentleman that worked here was also extremely nice. We will definitely be back again.

  • Jan 09, 2018 by Evelyn R

Our siblings take each other out for lunch for our birthdays. Today we went to Voodoo Gumbo and we are definitely coming back. I had eaten there yesterday for the first time and had suggested this place. We had crawfish etoufee, seafood gumbo, fried oysters, jambalaya and maybe a beer and wine!!! Very reasonably priced, delicious, and different!

  • Jan 06, 2018 by Vetskidog

Saw the Trip Advisor reviews and decided to try this place. I say thank you because this place has very good food. We stopped here for lunch. Because it was our first visit, they gave us samples of the jambalaya and shrimp gumbo. Yummy! I got a cup of the shrimp gumbo and it comes in a bowl! My husband got the chicken and sausage gumbo with a catfish Po boy fully dressed. Double yum. Glad we came. Thanks Trip Advisor.

  • Jan 06, 2018 by Elizabeth M.

I can't say enough positive things about this place. Stellar owner, super service, DELICIOUS AUTHENTIC food, poboys in my BACKYARD!!  What more could this girl want who's roots are from Louisiana. Everything we have tried has been perfection. Crawfish ettoufee is my favorite but the gumbo rocks and the beignets are sooo good!  Let's keep this place going strong!

  • Jan 06, 2018 by David D.

Excellent food and service! I definitely felt like I ate an authentic NOLA meal. The owner remained present and engaged to ensure superior quality. Will return again and bring friends next time! Thanks for the wonderful experience!

  • Jan 01, 2018 by ChristenF_81

I cannot say enough good things about Herb & the team at Voodoo Gumbo! My children love the food here and they especially love the free ice cream sundaes. I have lived in Hattiesburg, MS and traveled into Louisiana quite a bit and I think the food is as good as any place we would visit when we lived on the coast! Herb always takes time to check on the guests in the restaurant. We love taking our friends when they visit Nashville.

  • Dec 31, 2017 by Andrea B.

Love this place! We ordered the half and half which is half an entree ( I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo) and half a poboy. The shrimp in the poboy was so light and yet so crunchy. The bread was crisp yet also soft and the beignets were heaven! This will definitely be a regular stop for my husband and me!

  • Dec 19, 2017 by Carl G.

Excellent food and service. My wife and I had a shrimp po boy and a cup of jambalaya. Both were excellent. Not over spicy like some places. Nice clean place too. We will be back

  • Dec 14, 2017 by Daniel P.

We had wanted to try this since it opened, but just tonight finally did. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the most friendly gentleman at the counter. He was warm, very helpful, and offered for us to try the various gumbos etc to get an idea of what we liked best. Truly top notch service throughout an order-at-the-counter dining experience, amazing! Everything we tried was delicious, but the crawfish etouffee was my favorite. The shrimp poboys were outstanding as well, and with getting the poboy/etouffee combo, we got more food than we could eat in one sitting. Beautiful holiday decorations in the restaurant as well. Overall this place absolutely exceeded our expectations. Friendly and kind human interaction, delicious food, and festive decor, couldn't ask for more! Thank ya'll, and we'll be back!

  • Dec 02, 2017 by TreadLightAdventurer

I have seen the sign and heard good things. Now that I've been I am kicking myself for not trying it sooner! Over the holiday my family (including N.O. expats) wanted to try this place. The food is very good! The portions are generous for the price. The chosen meals were the "half and half" with stuffed po-boys of roast beef or shrimp with good-sized bowls (not cups) of really good gumbo or jambalaya. Going back to try the oyster po-boy and the etouffee, soon. Calling all transplanted C-A's in Nashville - we found a place to eat!

  • Dec 01, 2017 by Leo H

Voodoo Gumbo is Only excellent NOLA Cuisine in Nashville! My wife and I visit New Orleans at least two times a year. We always hate to return to Nashville because the restaurants are so bad here. Great to find a great restaurant in Nashville for a change.

  • Nov 30, 2017 by Bryan P.

Best sausage chicken gumbo and potato salad ive ever had. You can tell its made with love

  • Nov 27, 2017 by RussDole

Looking for a change from fried chicken & burgers & pizza, we were drawn to Voodoo Gumbo by the Tripadvisor reviews. Walking in, we were greeted by owner Herb, who insisted we sample some of the gumbos. That made our decisions difficult, as all were wonderful. The 8oz gumbo & 6" Po' Boy made for a great meal, and the beignets transported us back to Cafe Du Monde. Our son was so impressed, he went back the next night. 2 suggestions for Herb: put some New Orleans pictures on the wall, and add some Fats Domino, Louie Armstrong, & Jelly Roll Morton to the soundtrack. The motif should accentuate the really good food.

  • Nov 18, 2017 by Hope B.

Ate here for the first time today. I ordered the schrimp po-boy and crawfish etouffee and my husband had a po-boy and chicken and sausage gumbo. The po-boys and gumbo were great but the etouffee was Delicious!!

  • Nov 15, 2017 by Larry S.

Finally, outstanding NOLA food in Nashville. Étouffée, shrimp PO'Boy as good as any I've had in N.O. In a strip mall in Bellevue but don't let that deter you. Try it!  You won't be sorry.

  • Nov 13, 2017 by Rick S.

Excellent food and service and great value. Beignets are delicious and you can't beat the chicken and sausage gumbo!

  • Nov 10, 2017 by Joyce D.

It doesn't look like much...but VooDoo Gumbo knows how to make you happy! From the first moment, these are some of the friendliest people in town. We were asked if this was the first time we were here - it was - and then we were given a great intro to the restaurant. At VooDoo it's quick casual so you order up front then they bring the food to you. We opted for the half and half - half shrimp po boy half shrimp creole (or half any po boy and half any gumbo). Both great. We were told about the fantastic cheesecake but no way we had room to try it. Next time! And there will be a next time!

  • Nov 06, 2017 by Shub N.

The atmosphere here is very laid back...the menu is simple and straightforward...after ordering you can get some condiments on your right along with your choice of drink...I ordered the combo shrimp po'boy and crawfish etouffee...my food came out quick and the staff was friendly....the shrimp was very flavorful and the etouffee was very rich and creamy...the portion size was perfect...I  enjoyed...please bus your own table offer eating!!

  • Nov 05, 2017 by Redbird J.

The best hidden gem I've come across thus far!!  Staff was welcoming and the food was like Lions and Tigers and Bears....OH MY!!! All kinds of delicious .  The combo was just the right portion and priced just right!  Open, airy and kid friendly. The food was piping hot and the beignets were the icing on the cake!  Sweet, hot ....melt in your mouth

  • Nov 03, 2017 by Mattie J.

Amazing food and amazing service! It looks a little plain and it's just hanging out in a shopping strip, but do not pass up this place! You have to try the alligator bites!

  • Nov 02, 2017 by Julie P

If you're looking for some truly authentic cajun food, this place will not disappoint! From the oyster po'boys that are exploding with oysters to the etouffee, gumbo and jambalaya that make your mouth water, this little family owned & operated gem in the heart of Bellevue is a favorite. Craving a beignet to go with your coffee? Theirs are made fresh and from scratch! Oh! Did I mention that everything on the menu is made from scratch? Yep...no joke. Voodoo Gumbo is incredible!

  • Oct 29, 2017 by Celeste C.

Perfect addition to Bellevue, and it's always hot and delicious. A cool little spot, very laid back, chill, and the owner is super friendly and always has the nicest things to say about my family. It isn't too badly priced and the flavors just burst off the plate. Absolutely delicious spot.

  • Oct 29, 2017 by Shawn M.

Everything about Voodoo Gumbo was absolutely amazing! The staff is very friendly and attentive and the food is phenomenal. You can't really go wrong here with anything. The shrimp Po' Boy was delicious on a soft fluffy French baguette. The crawfish étouffée was very buttery, rich, and packed full of flavor. Definitely will be coming back!

  • Oct 28, 2017 by Marlena M.

So excited we have a little slice of NOLA right here in our own backyard. They kindly let me try a couple things before ordering and I chose the shrimp gumbo which had a light broth and not a dark roux or any okra that I could see -- but it was quite tasty and light enough that I don't feel too full, it had a scoop of a nice semi-sticky rice in it as well. The shrimp po' boy was fine, the bread soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside, I will probably try another kind of po' boy though - like oyster or non-fried type next time.  Staff were super friendly.

  • Oct 26, 2017 by Gena G.

Really great food and personal service. This is a real Bellevue gem. I had the red beans and rice and shrimp po'boy combination, with great taste and a reasonable price. The red beans and rice also had tasty and flavorful Andouille sausage and could easily be a meal on its own. If you at all a fan of Cajun/ Creole food, you owe it to yourself to stop in. Oh! Beignets!! Make sure you get an order of them, too!

  • Oct 25, 2017 by Darby S.

I never write online reviews... this is my very first one on yelp.  I also never really liked most Cajun food, and I've been to New Orleans like 6 times.  My husband wanted to try VooDoo Gumbo so I finally agreed to get some takeout last Thursday and loved it so much I had to go to their restaurant again on Tuesday.  Every bite of everything I tried was just amazingly delicious. Especially the crawfish étouffée and the red beans and rice!  The bread they use on the po-boys is unbelievable and everything is seasoned beautifully. Nothing I tried was spicy but they have lots of different sauces you can use to add some spice. The restaurant seemed very clean and the employees were friendly! It is casual & the food came out fast. I will definitely be a regular at this restaurant and am so happy to have this gem in Bellevue.

  • Oct 16, 2017 by Kelley B.

There are very few places in Nashville to get good Cajun food & this place was a great treat! Casual and quick with seriously good crawfish étouffée!  We will be back often!

  • Oct 12, 2017 by Lee K.

Been a couple times right when it first opened. Amazing. Food is pretty..pretty good. Gumbo was great and the po boy was a greatly needed addition to Bellevue. The owner was in one time and he commented/complimented my Allman Bros Tshirt which warmed my heart almost more than the gumbo. And now I'm ramblin, man so I'll stop.

I know it's going to be a good day at work when my boss looks at me and says "Is it Voodoo Gumbo Day?!". Ever since this place opened, they have been consistently churning out delicious food. Service is counter service, and the gentleman who works the counter during lunch shift is always pleasant and helpful. The half/half meal is a great deal and you can get your fix of whatever Creole meal your heart desires. My personal favorites are the roast beef po boy and the recently added jambalaya.I've sampled most of the menu and have had nothing I didn't like. They are currently expanding their menu a little bit at a time and have expanded their hours to being open 7 days a week. This is definitely one of the best places to eat in Bellevue. Also, for those concerned about spice level, you are in good hands if you don't like super spicy.

My husband and I went to Voodoo Gumbo today for a late lunch. It had been recommended to us by family and friends. The restaurant staff was super attentive and explained the menu items along with where to get our drinks, etc. I ordered the special which was a bowl of gumbo or etouffee plus a 6" po-boy. I got the crawfish etouffee and a shrimp po-boy. We also ordered the beignets. The food was the best Cajun/New Orleans food that I have had in the 17 years that I've lived in Nashville. This is genuine New Orleans food and the beignets were awesome! We will definitely return. Great job!

Well... I was so excited to eat here having seen so many good reviews. While I was far from wowed, it was sadly just okay. Etoufee and gumbo were soupy almost broth like in base and fairly tasteless. Thick roux with layers of spices and flavors are sorrowful missing. The po boys were good enough and the bread authentic...so three stars is fair. The beignets tasted like flour, lacked that hint of sweetness needed. Atmosphere was drab, no photos, no tv. But the music was great! Hopefully a few quick fixes are coming soon...

  • Sep 28, 2017 by Josh C.

This place is great. Everything is cooked fresh and from scratch. We had the shrimp(wild caught) po boys and crawfish ettoufe. Was blown away with how great everything was. They work with delivery services too. We will be repeating often.

  • Sep 26, 2017 by Ashby

Skip the Gumbo and get the Étouffée and Catfish or Oyster Po Boys. So very good.

  • Sep 25, 2017 by Kate M.

Fantastic food, the fried oyster po'boy is Amazing! And the beniets better than the ones I had at Cafe du Monde. The restaurant is clean, modern and casual. The staff are also great, especially Griffin! I went on Friday for the first time, going back again tonight and it's only Monday...

  • Sep 25, 2017 by Owen S.

This place has gotten better and better.  I have done the half and half a few times- 1/2 poboy and small rice dish.  Everything has been great especially the etouffee and red beans/rice.  They also serve beignets now that taste just like Cafe du Monde's.  I have a one year old and have usually gone early for dinner which he loved as well.  It is a really laid back and super casual atmosphere- order at the counter and sit down.  I grew up in Louisiana and it is the most authentic Louisiana food I have tasted outside of the state (and better than many inside the state).  I haven't had anything I disliked and the staff has been super friendly.

  • Sep 19, 2017 by Big M.

It's good! Nice sized portions. Ordered the half/half (chicken and sausage gumbo with a 6" roast beef pro boy) . The place needs a little more ambiance, get something up on the walls! Service was great, staff was very kind. Simple- good- local

Go. Go now! Went for lunch yesterday and got the Fried Oyster Poboy. Fresh ingredients, perfectly cooked oysters bedded on Leidenheimer. Got a cup (which is actually a nice bowl-sized serving) of Etouffee and it was so rich in flavors I was giddy. Nice atmosphere...great people to serve you.

Voodoo Gumbo is a casual Creole eatery in the shopping center on the corner of Highway 70 and Old Hickory Blvd. There isn't much of an ambiance if you plan to eat there, just a number of booths and small tables and very simple decor. However, the ambiance doesn't mean anything to me if the food is as good as it is here! When pondering the menu at the counter the man at the register asked if we had any questions then made a few recommendations. We talked a bit with him and he explained that this restaurant is owned by brothers from Louisiana using family recipes. We decided on getting a cup of the crawfish etoufee, a cup of the chicken Gumbo then splitting the catfish sandwich as a to-go order. We only waited 5-10 minutes before they brought out our food. The catfish sandwich was a little hard to split because it had so many toppings so when we cut into it some of the bread gave way and it got a bit messy. However, the taste was there for everything. My favorite thing was the crawfish etoufee. Somewhere in between a soup and a stew/Gumbo it had a thick consistency and a delicious savory sauce to it. I could've eaten the catfish alone with a bit of tartar sauce but it was also good in sandwich form. As someone who is always searching for quick, delicious places to grab food to-go I will definitely be back to Voodoo. I think perhaps other times I've been to a creole restaurant they haven't done justice to this cuisine to the point where I have felt like I didn't much care for it. Voodoo changes my mind about that initial judgment and I'm a believer in creole food once again!

  • Aug 23, 2017 by Dan D.

Went to Voodoo Gumbo for the first time tonight. I had a shrimp po-boy dressed and my wife had the shrimp etouffee. My po-boy was as good as any restaurant in New Orleans and the best that I have ever had in Nashville over the past 25 years. The etouffee was a on bland side and would benefit from more spice but still enjoyable. We also had the beignets which were a little on the sweet side but a treat to have. I prefer the Cafe Du Monde mix personally. The staff and owner were great.  If you are from NOLA and want some home cooking,  I would definitely put Voodoo Gumbo on you must visit list. Looking forward to trying the Gumbo on my next visit. They also had Barq's Rootbeer, Dixie Longnecks, and Zapps Chips.

  • Aug 20, 2017 by Ryan M.

I knew I was on to something when I walked in to see Crystal Hot Sauce on every table and Lindenheimer bread. If you're from New Orleans, that statement should be enough for you to give this place a shot. Beyond happy to have this place in Bellevue. Quick, super friendly staff, tasty. Glad someone was able to break the curse of that retail space, because this place I awesome!

  • Aug 13, 2017 by 12dbryan

I just had lunch at Voodoo Gumbo in my neighborhood of Bellevue in Nashville and it was like being in New Orleans. I was in New Orleans just a few weeks ago and decided I should check out this relatively new restaurant. I highly recommend it. Get the half and half. It's all you can eat. Seriously. I got the roast beef poboy and had it "dressed all the way" with the mayo, lettuce, tomato and pickle along with a bowl of red beans and rice. These guys know what they are doing. I am happy to have it here in the neighborhood and know I will take family and friends and go back many times. It's good ya'll!

  • Aug 12, 2017 by Douglas S.

We were welcomed with info that chef/owners were New Orleans natives and really had great NEw Orleans recipes. The shrimp gumbo was tasteless. No spice at all. Shrimp were tiny and mushy. No okra in gumbo. Shrimp PO Boy bread was good- needs to be crustier. Shrimp were small, mushy and breaking was so little it came right off. Only good part was the remoulade. Think the owners need to go to New Orleans to taste real Cajun cooking- maybe visit Mothers. Very poor substitute for real Cajun cooking.

  • Aug 12, 2017 by Julie K.

Horrible. That is the worst gumbo I have ever had. The roux tasted if flour. There is absolutely no spice at all or flavor.  I couldn't even eat the Shrimp PoBoy. It was obviously bagged frozen shrimp with tasteless breading and it tasted fishy. I left the food uneaten and walked out. Never again.

  • Aug 10, 2017 by Kim P.

Amazing gumbo, red beans & rice  and possibly the best oyster po boy outside of NOLA. Po Boys are served on Leidenheimer french bread, just as they should be. Menu is essential and what they offer, they do incredibly well. Counter service - staff is attentive and helpful. Prices are very reasonable for quality.

  • Aug 09, 2017 by Gina G.

Amazing lunch. Second time for us. Great addition to Bellevue. Excellent gumbo, red beans rice and GUMBO!

  • Aug 05, 2017 by Susam A.

I hate to give a low review because they do some things very well. Hopefully they will continue to get better. Their Customer Service is excellent- friendly, helpful , courteous and enthusiastic. I loved the bread they chose for their lobster roll and the breading on the shrimp was nice and light. Their sauces are a plus, so don't forget to ask them about the sauce choice. However I did not care for the quality of the shrimp - more like small shrimp salad type shrimp. They really need to up the quality of their shrimp even if it is to add an additional Supreme  shrimp roll that they charge a higher price for.  I found the Creole  lacking any depth of  spices but perhaps they are aiming to appeal to a wider audience. There is a shaker of hot sauce at each table. According to other reviews lots of people love it - and I do wish them the best of success. Just not one of my favorites so far.

  • Aug 04, 2017 by Joni

Crawfish Etoufee is amazing. Shrimp and Oyster poboys are delish! Staff is friendly and caring

  • Aug 03, 2017 by Conan Q.

We went there, and had the Chicken and Sausage Gumbo along with a Beef and Gravy Po' Boy both of which were pretty good. The potato salad however was really bland and dry, disappointing. For such a small menu you'd think theyd have their food perfected. Witnessed coworker throwing a particular coworker under the bus multiple times over something that wasn't their fault. That was pretty disturbing, then other coworkers did the same. Probably will not return.

  • Jul 28, 2017 by lindamZ1968XJ

If you want Cajun food that is authentic and the best tasting in Tenn. You have to eat here. We have had their Gumbo, red beans and rice, etouffee, shrimp po boys, oyster poboy and beniets. They are all excellent. We have eaten there during the week and tonight a Friday night. Service and food are consistently excellent. It's a must place to go.

  • Jul 27, 2017 by 690AnnC

Chicken Gumbo....very good especially for a small diner, drive in and dive type of place in the Bellevue area of Nashville. Menu is limited but enough to find something you want. They have shrimp or chicken gumbo and it is served with a scoop of rice and side of French bread. I will have again, it was very good. We also had a Shrimp PoBoy, good but could be better. The shrimp is not the fresh larger shrimp that makes this sandwich great but it is a good sandwich. Lunched with 2 other friends and we all said we would be back. Order and then sit and your food will be served to you. Beer also served...

  • Jul 26, 2017 by Jared B

We had dinner at Voodoo Gumbo. We have been before when they opened several months ago. They are promising to increase their menu but as of last week had not yet. The chicken gumbo is thick and tasty. The shrimp gumbo didn't fair as well. We had a large party and their service was great. They got all the food out in a reasonable amount of time. I would like to see them add the chicken dishes and other items they are planning to add before I go back again.

  • Jul 26, 2017 by M R.

Cajun Country in Nashville!  Wow!  Po-Boy sandwiches, Gumbo, Jambalaya, Etouffe, Red Beans and Rice, Beignets.  It's all good.  I mean really good! This place is all about serving well prepared basic Cajun dishes and providing good service.  Place your order at the counter, take a number, get your drink and find a seat.  Restaurant staff is very friendly and the owners are hands on to ensure delivery of outstanding dishes and prompt service.  Some interior decorating (think Louisiana/New Orleans motif) and a little Cajun music would add significantly to the ambiance.  On balance, Bellevue is very fortunate to have an authentic Cajun restaurant in it's backyard!!

  • Jul 22, 2017 by Judy Y.

Came here tonight with my son and had the chicken gumbo. It was just perfect! Wonderful mix of flavors and I could tell it had been cooked carefully and for a long time. I wanted home-cooked food tonight without cooking and definitely got it here! My son had a shrimp poboy that he was more than happy with. Staff was friendly and helpful. Great place. We will definitely be back!

  • Jul 22, 2017 by David P.

I'm from Louisiana and I'm a Cajun snob. Voodoo Gumbo has the best Cajun food I've had outside Louisiana.  The shrimp gumbo had good body and just the right amount of spice. The etouffee was just as good and the rice was sticky "coon ass" rice just as it should be.  The shrimp poboy and accompanying remoulade sauce had a nice spicy bite.  The red beans and rice could have used a bit more spice in my opinion; however, overall, you won't find better Cajun locally.  We will be back with the rest of the family.

  • Jul 17, 2017 by Glen C.

Now THIS is a talented chef/owner who cares! This place rocks! Hands down the best Louisiana cooking we've had in the Nashville area. Fantastic Chicken & Sausage Gumbo and a Crawfish Etoufee that was off the charts! AND, genuine " Slap Ya Mama" seasoning. Can't wait to go there again.

  • Jul 15, 2017 by Julie W.

Absolutely fantastic!  If you're looking for authentic Cajun food, including Oyster PoBoys & Etouffee, this place is it!  They offer chicken, seafood & sausage gumbo, etouffee and shrimp & oyster poboys.  I understand that catfish & beignets are going to be added to the menu soon.  The prices are very reasonable too!!!  You will not be disappointed!

  • Jul 15, 2017 by Parker W.

Absolutely loved this place. Great food and the service was good too! I personally don't like spicy food, so I liked the fact it wasn't spicy and you could spice it up yourself with hot sauce. It was really delicious and we will be back.

  • Jul 15, 2017 by Cindy T.

Just got shrimp gumbo - excellent! Oysters on the weekend. Extremely friendly staff; good wait staff. Definitely recommend!

  • Jul 14, 2017 by Dave M

As a New Orleans native I've tried and tried to find good good gumbo in Nashville, and I finally succeeded. Voodoo Gumbo is the real deal!!! Wonderful French bread too. Wife had the crawfish "mud bug" eoutofee and it was excellent. Plan to go back this weekend for an oyster Po-boy. Saw they also do a roast beef and gravy one just like Mothers on Poydras. YUM.

  • Jul 14, 2017 by Brandon S.

Average Cajun food found in nashville. Compared to other Cajun places in Nashville this is the best we've tried, but it doesn't remind me at all of NOLA and the wonderful food there.

  • Jul 10, 2017 by GOODGUYNASHVILLE

Friend recommended on Facebook so we tried Gumbo, Shrimp PoBoy and Oyster PoBoy. We thought everything was excellent and worth the drive from Green Hills to Bellevue. The staff was awesome and genuinely interested in our satisfaction. Music was entertaining too. The full Oyster PoBoy is enough for one hungry dude or a couple!

  • Jul 10, 2017 by Cindy T.

Good Cajun/Creole styled food in the Bellevue area! Service was counter-style and friendly. They do bring the food to your table. They had a great deal for half an order of 6" po boy with an order of gumbo, etouffee, or red beans. I went with the shrimp po boy which was plentiful and delicious. Shrimp was lightly fried and flavorful. The etouffee was salty and creamy, just the way I like it. Small menu means they do what they do well. I look forward to trying more of it. Great addition to the neighborhood!

  • Jul 07, 2017 by E9183IXpatriciam

Limited menu. I had the half shrimp po boy and cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. Both were very good. Roue was well seasoned. I could do with less rice but will just ask for less next time. Fried shrimp was good quality and nicely cooked. I did taste the shrimp gumbo but like the chicken sausage better.

  • Jul 05, 2017 by 4bird1

Fairly new, this is an order at a counter, pay, take a number and find a seat. My order arrived promptly and was very good. The shrimp gumbo was good but could stand some tweaking, the rice needs some work. The po' boy was outstanding! Excellent, friendly service. Very clean and attractive interior. Reasonable prices. Will definitely return.

  • Jul 05, 2017 by dude0417

Our group of four included a native of Louisiana who helped us make our selections and to give his opinion on how the various dishes compared to authentic Cajun ones. My wife and I went with beef PoBoy sandwiches coupled with gumbo for the very reasonable price of $10. Our expert and daughter shared red beans and rice along with a gumbo dish. Both he and I added the available Slap Yo Mama hot seasoning, although the dishes were spicey enough without it. We finished our meal, high fived our host, and promised to be back again soon - which we will.

  • Jul 03, 2017 by Lou B.

A great new addition in bellvue. We love the gumbo!  VERY MEATY and full of flavor. Excited they are adding more items every week.  We will be back again and again

  • Jul 03, 2017 by Steve C.

I'd been looking forward to coming back here again for the last week, and sadly got the worst bowl of Gumbo I've ever had. Last time I was at Voodoo Gumbo, the first week they were open, I had the chicken & sausage gumbo, which was totally devoid of sausage, but still tasty. Today, I tried the shrimp gumbo, and it was bland and the shrimp were very mushy. Worst. Gumbo. Ever. The Gumbo Capt. D's had a month or so ago eclipsed it. The shrimp Po' Boys we had today were okay, but nothing notable about them. Again, bland. I've been to New Orleans, easily 20 times, and my expectations weren't met. I hope they haven't fallen victim to Nashvillitis, where restarants have to tone down their flavor to appease it's residents demands for bland food. I don't see this restaurant making it. The menu is too limited, the prices are expensive for what you're getting, and worst of all, the food is disappointing. Sad.

  • Jul 01, 2017 by dianec624

We had an excellent lunch with authentic Cajun food, just loved it! The cost was very reasonable with great service. We will definitely return soon.

  • Jul 01, 2017 by Jeanette T.

Great Cajun food starting with po boys  and crawfish etouffe.  Complimented by great bread. Being from southwest Louisiana, we appreciate great food and great service at a great price. Had the small shrimp po boy stuffed with shrimp and a small order of crawfish etouffe. Thought we were back home. We will back and soon.

  • Jun 30, 2017 by Liz B.

CLOSED ON MONDAYS. Awesome staff. Speedy service. Short menu. Clean facility.  Chill atomosphere in your best sweat pants kind of place. Got our food to go as we didn't want to walk in and sit 30 minutes prior to closing.  So sorry about that but I'm sure they don't want their Etouffee that is cooked daily to go to waste.   Easy menu to choose from. That's right. Give us too many choices; we'd be overwhelmed and indecisive.   $10.95 Half n Half:  a breaded Shrimp Po-Boy, a cup of Crawfish Etoufee, a rice ball in a seperate sandwich baggie to put on top of that Etoufee and a small baguette. You need nothing else. We'll maybe a little remoulade sauce since that is a lot of bread.  The Crawfish is rich and had so much flavor. I liked this the best among all the items i've tried.  It must be the butter. Everything tastes awesome with butter. Friends also got a half Roast Beef Po-boy which had a lot of gravy so it was a messy sandwich along with a Chicken and sausage gumbo. I'd pass on the gumbo.  It was bland in my opinion.  Adding hot sauce helped. $1.75 Fries: We bought a side of french fries to share with each other and fries are always fun to eat. A bit salty. So I will ask for salt-free next time. We eat just because it's fun and not because we are hungry. ;0)   It was perfect meal for each type of pallette and to take along during the Fireworks at the Red Caboose Park. We've eaten here at least another 4 times this month. Fatties, indeed we are.

  • Jun 29, 2017 by Steve S.

Etouffee is very good.  Shrimp poboy was awesome.  Shrimp not overly breaded and The bread is awesome.  They get The bread out of The Big Easy.

  • Jun 24, 2017 by Chris R.

Ate there for the first time and is excellent! I loved the gumbo and the shrimp po boy is delicious. Update: Went back and now the chicken and sausage gumbo and roast beef po boy are my favorites. So happy this place is in my community!

  • Jun 23, 2017 by Ed S.

This is a gem. They are obviously paying close attention to what they are doing and what they're doing is excellent. The poboy's are as good as they get. The gumbo is good and the etouffee is amazing. They are expanding the menu and I expect those items will be just as good. I'll be back to see.

  • Jun 23, 2017 by Jessica D.

We lived in New Orleans for 5 years and haven't had gumbo or a po boy this good since we moved. The gumbo roux was perfection!  The roast beef po boy slathered in gravy and dressed in traditional Nola style was mouth watering! We'll be back!

  • Jun 20, 2017 by Hambone W.

Voodoo Gumbo is literally the best New Orleans-style food I've had outside the Crescent City, and I've had a lot. I think their etoufee is perhaps even better than most I've had in Louisiana. The po-boy bread is slightly chewy, lightly toasted and very fresh-tasting. I can't wait until they have their full menu going with oyster po-boys and beignets. If the soft opening is any indication, there are still great things to come from this small, unassuming restaurant in a Bellevue strip mall. It's been well worth my 2 trips from an hour away already. That's still 7 hours closer than New Orleans and just as delicious! Highly recommended!

  • Jun 20, 2017 by J W.

I was extremely disappointed.i wet during lunch time and was excited that it wasn't busy and got food very quickly. Unfortunately,  the gumbo was soupy in consistency, lacking flavor, spice and heat with mushy shrimp. I order gumbo any time it is on a menu and this was not good gumbo. The Po boy came next and I was delighted to see they had good french bread. Again, however, they missed on the fried shrimp. The batter was doughy and tasted of under cooked flour. The remoulade was also not to my liking. The service was very good and the people ate extremely friendly and accommodating. I just did not like the food. I hope they figure it out because I love this type of food.

  • Jun 19, 2017 by Michael D.

I waited months for this place to finally open up, and what was my patience rewarded with?  A flavor trip to the Deep South. This place knows gumbo and it knows Po Boys. In most other places, Po Boys are just lightly filled disappointments. With this place?  You get a true blue sand which that's exploding with meat. The hands down best part?  The crawfish étouffée. Such a fresh and well seasoned bite in each spoon. It takes a strong measure of self control to NOT dine here multiple times a week.

  • Jun 19, 2017 by Darrell W.

I went for a late lunch (3:00 PM) and it was fantastic.  The great service and unbelievably tasty food created a wonderful experience.  Love that Bellevue has this place now.

  • Jun 18, 2017 by Kin C

In the shopping center with TJ Max, this is a great addition to the Bellevue restaurant scene. They are planning to expand their menu. The Chicken Sausage Gumbo was very good +.

  • Jun 18, 2017 by Erica C.

Omg this Gumbo was literally the best I have ever had!!!!!! The manager introduced himself and was super nice, I know I will be back. If you're a gumbo fan you will most def love this place

  • Jun 18, 2017 by Adam S.

What a hidden gem in a unassuming corner of a Bellevue strip mall! The food was absolutely fantastic. The half and half is the best deal in town. A shrimp po boy done simply and right and then a cup of the absolutely delicious crawfish etouffee to go with it. The etouffee stole the show, flavorful, rich, and with plenty of crawfish tails. We are already making our plans to return later this week.

  • Jun 18, 2017 by Tom S.

I ate here earlier this week and I'm shocked by all the 5 star reviews! Must be mostly Bellevue locals hard up for new options to eat out. This place is mediocre at best. I ate the chicken and sausage gumbo. I was quite bland. The chicken was tender but the only thing that gave it any flavor was the sausage. It was certainly not authentic Creole/Cajun...more like from a can. At $12 a bowl, no thanks! The menu was very limited, although they are going to add new items. I might try them again in the future but not any time soon.

  • Jun 18, 2017 by C W.

YES!! Out of all the foodie things happening in Nashville one stone remains largely unturned.  Cajun/creole.   So after seeing blurb in paper about Voodoo Gumbo, the wifey and I headed out to the big intersection of Old Hickory and hi 70 in Bellevue to try It. OMG!   Real nawlins French bread!  Gumbo and Etouffee as good as ANY I've had in the big easy!   My wife is a huge roast beef po boy fan ( being raised about 5 miles above Louisiana).  LOVED her poboy.  Great Shrimp po boy boom! They've only been open a week or so, so kinda limited menu  but supposedly bringing more stuff on line ASAP.    Like I needed an excuse to come back.      Oh, and Staff was GREAT!   This pretty much says it alll.....   we shared bowls of etouffee, gumbo, RB n R  last night.......   and then  ordered it ALL AGAIN  to take home!   A Sunday of messing around in the yard knowing that I got more voodoo gumbo waiting for me when I'm done.  YES!!

  • Jun 17, 2017 by Jonathan F.

Been here a few times already.  They keep things simple and consistent.  Just appreciate that. Everything on the menu has great taste and is accurate to what you are expecting. Service is fast, no complaints about any of that.

  • Jun 17, 2017 by Ashby F.

I've visited this place four times now since they opened, so I felt like I should say something. The Po Boys are perfect. Served on Leidenheimer's French Bread shipped in fresh from New Orleans, you can have either roast beef, catfish, or shrimp with cocktail or remoulade sauce and they're filled with ample amounts of meat. They have Oyster Po Boys as well, and they're stuffed with tasty medium sized gulf oysters. Very good. The Gumbo... such a touchy subject for people that enjoy Cajun and Creole food. I think their roux could be a good bit darker, spicier and a little more flavorful, but with that being said, this is definitely some tasty stuff even if it isn't my favorite style. The chicken and sausage seems to be a little heartier than the shrimp. Now for what you should all be ordering... The Crawfish Étouffée is the best I've ever had. I lived on the gulf for several years in LA and TX and I've never had Étouffée better than this. Looks to be darker roux than the Gumbo, flavorful, and packed with crawfish. They also now have Beignets, and they're very good and just like what you get in New Orleans. Several of my friends have gotten the Red Beans and Rice and have really enjoyed it. The prices for lunch are a little stout for Bellevue, but still, very good stuff and a welcome addition to our neighborhood. Given how good the Po Boys and Étouffée are, I can't help but rate this as a 5.

  • Jun 16, 2017 by Gail W.

Love this place!  Everything I have tried has been excellent.  Can't wait for the beignets!

  • Jun 15, 2017 by rockstar89

This place has been very busy since it opened… The space that it moved into has kind of been cursed, I'm not going to lie. But initial reviews from the community are very positive so we tried it out. The decor is very basic and the atmosphere seemed bland. They could have used some good Cajun music coming through. The food though...very good. The menu is limited with them just being open, lots of things 'to come' says the menu. My wife had chicken and sausage gumbo which was smoky and fantastic. I had shrimp gumbo and it was good as well. The price point was a little expensive at $13 for a bowl of gumbo with a chunk of fresh bread. The best deal is a 1/2 po boy and cup of gumbo for $10. It was a good first visit and I wish them well because this neighborhood needs some good locally owned restaurant to give the chains a run for their money. It's Thursday night and this place was covered up… So that's a good sign.

  • Jun 10, 2017 by Djordje Ž.

I would say this place is a must go to. It's local and great food! I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and the 12 inch shrimp Poboy! It

  • Jun 09, 2017 by Joshua M.

Wow... awesome staff and authentic feel with great Gumbo! Meets in the middle on flavor for everyone. Bonus is the staff jammed Pink Floyd / classic rock at just the right level. Can't wait to take family/friends.

  • Jun 03, 2017 by Joshua P.

Amazing gumbo. Better than I've had in New Orleans.

  • Jun 03, 2017 by Sonya F.

We ordered food to go tonight at Voodoo Gumbo and were VERY impressed! We had the Red Beans and Rice, Crawfish Étouffée, shrimp Po boy, coleslaw and potato salad. The packaging was done very nicely with rice in separate bags and containers that were very easy to transport. I'm not a fan of étouffée but I will be going back and ordering some more because it was delicious! The red beans and rice were creamy with sausage and just the right spice. The menu is limited (because they're starting out) but the food choices they had were on spot!  We are from Louisiana/Mississippi and are extremely happy to have a taste of home. Welcome to the neighborhood Voodoo Gumbo!

Went for lunch the other day, and it was wonderful! The shrimp Po'boy was fantastic! We have been waiting patiently for Voodoo Gumbo to open, and will be going back often. Menu is short right now, but they will be expanding it in the near future. This is a fast-casual place, perfect for a quick bite! Don't miss out!

I was looking forward to this visit to Voodoo Gumbo. I'm glad I finally got to visit. I had the shrimp Po boy and the crawfish étouffée. The sandwich was very good, very simple, with authentic New Orleans style po boy bread.  I thought it was just a tad pricey. Approximately $12. I will definitely order it again. The crawfish étouffée was a dark roux version, that I had not seen before. Most of the versions that I have had were of the butter or white wine variety. It was delicious. Served with white rice and a piece of French bread. The staff is very nice. They are transplants from New Orleans. The owner worked in the music business here in Nashville for the last 25 years. Hoping they'll add a muffuletta and a oyster Po boy. I wish these guys future success - it's nice to have Cajun option on this side of town.

Visited this place for lunch today. Great authentic roast beef poboy.  The leidenheimer bread is fresh and on point... making their poboys the real deal. The lady at the counter didn't even blink when I ordered it "dressed". They didn't have the shrimp gumbo when I went but I'm going to try it when I go back. I'm hoping they use shrimp stock in their gumbo. If they do...this place will undoubtedly be a home run! So far very pleased. If your from the New Orleans Metro area, as I am, you'll be pleased with the poboys. If you're not and want to experience an authentic New Orleans poboy in Bellevue/Nashville it's well worth a visit for sure. The owners are from the Westbank of the NOLA area so they know their stuff.

Came to the second night Voodoo Gumbo was open. Great food, earnest staff, filling a needed food niche in Nashville. Delicious Shrimp PoBoys and Crawfish Etouffee. Leidenheimer rolls and Dixie Beer from New Orleans-  can't get more authentic Cajun than this in Nashville!  Very laid back, casual dining area- paper towels on the table. I will be back!

The food here is as close as you are going to get to authentic NOLA cuisine. I only went once so far but I ordered like 5 different things, and they were all delicious!
